Description
The Community Services Department is seeking an individual who has experience, compassion, and commitment for reaching out to seniors while working in the Keen Center for Senior Resources and Care Management Outreach Programs. This person will be involved in identifying and coordinating access to specialized programs and resources to assist seniors and their families and conducting in home-assessments for services.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Identify and/or coordinate access to specialized programs and referral resources; such as health, transportation, legal, educational and a variety of other social services, to assist seniors and their families.
- Provide daily oversight and supervision for the Center for Senior Resources.
- Assist in training and supporting the efforts of a dedicated corps of part-time Outreach staff and volunteers.
- Provide direct assessment and referral support over the phone, by appointment, or through home visitation.
- Under the guidance of the supervisor, prepare updates on services rendered and maintain quality assurance and statistical data.
- Participate in problem-solving to maintain and enhance existing program services.
- Equivalent to four years of college or university level work in social work, psychology, gerontology, or closely related field, and two years of social work or counseling experience or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities. Experience in senior outreach services, social services, work with volunteers and cross-cultural programs is highly desirable.
- Understand and respond positively to the needs of seniors and family members of varying cultural backgrounds.
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of the principles of social service programs and ability to coordinate community resources.
- Computer knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office programs.
- Effectively organize, prioritize, and manage multiple assignments.
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with staff and volunteers demonstrating leadership abilities.
- Effective written and oral communication skills and ability to maintain a system for accurately and efficiently recording sensitive material.
HOURS
This position requires a schedule commitment of 32 hours per week including the operation hours of the Keen Center for Senior Resources which are:
Monday-Thursday: 9 am - 3 pm and Friday 9 am - 12 pm.
Extended part time employees are eligible to participate in the City’s medical plan. If you elect to enroll in one of these plans, the City will pay ½ of the employee-only coverage. EPT employees are also eligible to participate in the City’s dental plan. If you elect to enroll in the plan, you will be responsible for the entire premium.
RetirementExtended part time employees receive retirement benefits through the California Public Retirement Program (CalPERS). The City offers the PERS 2.0% @ 62 plan for newly hired employees. Contribution rates are subject to change. Employees become fully vested after reaching the equivalent of 5 years of service. However, employees may elect to withdraw employee contribution funds upon leaving City employment in accordance with federal guidelines.
The City does not participate in Social Security except for the mandatory Medicare Program.
Extended part time employees accrue vacation credits at three-quarter the rate of full time, non-exempt employees. Extended part time employees with less than 3 years of service earn 60 vacation hours per year; those with more than 3 but less than 10 years of service earn 90 vacation hours per years; those with more than 10 years of service earn 120 vacation hours per years.
SickLeave
Extended part time employees accrue 6 hours of sick leave per month.
HolidaysNormally scheduled working hours, which fall on official City holidays, will be compensated. The City observes 11 holidays per year.
OvertimeExtended part time employees are compensated at one and one-half times their hourly rate for authorized overtime work beyond 40 hours per week.
Additional InformationPart time employees are employed “at will” and serve at the pleasure of the appointing authority. As such, their services can be discontinued without cause.
Deferred Compensation PlansAre available to interested employees.
Social SecurityThe City does not participate in Social Security except for the mandatory Medicare Program.
MedicareEmployees hired after 1/1/86, are required to contribute 1.45% of their earnings.
