Provide quality instruction for the benefit of the participants. The days of work and hours will vary with each class but may include evenings and weekends.
The salary range for this position is$15.76- $21.27 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.
Position will remain open until filled.
This is a part‑time position working on average less than 20 hours per week.
Essential Functions- Introduce participants to a variety of cooking techniques, ingredients, and cuisines from around the world while promoting kitchen safety, creativity, and confidence in the kitchen.
- Ensure compliance with all food handling, sanitation, and safety standards.
- Purchase, organize, and manage ingredients and supplies within established budgets.
- Provide safe and effective class instruction to registered participants.
- Develop and implement age‑appropriate lesson plans featuring a variety of cuisines and cooking styles, including Italian, Mexican, Chinese, American, Mediterranean, French, and other international dishes.
- Participate in required training.
- Inspect classroom/program environment, equipment, materials and ingredients to ensure safety.
- Handle emergencies according to established procedures.
- Complete administrative tasks such as skills assessment of participants, attendance sheets, class evaluations and class description for brochures.
- Provide make‑up sessions as required.
- Communicate effectively with recreation staff, participants, and parents/guardians.
- Perform duties as assigned.
- High School graduate or GED required.
- 1 year experience teaching cooking classes required.
- Some coursework in recreation, education, or related field preferred.
- Must be at least 18 years of age at time of hire.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification or ability to obtain First Aid and CPR certification within 60 days of employment.
- Proficient knowledge of the specific discipline.
- Strong verbal communication skills.
- Work with a diverse group of people effectively and diplomatically.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Ability to handle difficult situations involving participants with patience, good judgment, and diplomacy.
- Demonstrate competent organizational and planning skills.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions- Frequent light to moderate physical effort that includes frequent standing or walking or maintaining arms and hands in the same position for repetitive tasks. Frequently works with light objects and light hand tools.
- Frequent exposure to hazards typically found in general office environments where there is rarely to no exposure to injury or accident.
- Occasional exposure to hazards that are predictable or well protected against.
- Must be able to lead and demonstrate the skill and/or activity.
- Incumbent will be required to work varied hours, including evenings and weekends. Employee will work extensive hours in an indoor environment.
- May require pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing, positioning and moving equipment necessary for the activity.
- Incumbent must possess the strength and stamina to perform strenuous physical activity.

- Medical Leave – Accrue 1 hour of leave per 30 hours worked (up to 48 hours)
