Pre-Sales Design Estimator
This is not a maintenance hire stepping into an already polished process. This is a chance to help build one.
A growing PEMB organization is adding a Pre-Sales Engineer / Pre-Construction Design Specialist to strengthen the technical side of its sales and estimating workflow. The role sits between sales, customers, estimating, and engineering - taking projects from partially defined concepts to highly accurate, estimate-ready RFQs that move through the process with minimal downstream revision.
For the right person, this is an opportunity to influence standards, improve workflows, and help elevate the overall engineering mindset within the division while gaining strong visibility inside a growing organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Review architectural, structural, and bid documents for PEMB opportunities
- Translate customer and sales inputs into complete RFQs and preconstruction documentation
- Utilize MBS to prepare accurate technical building information and drawing packages
- Identify scope gaps, constructability concerns, and conflicts before projects reach estimating
- Collaborate with DSMs, estimating, and engineering teams throughout pre-contract phases
- Support design-build and technical customer discussions as needed
- Qualify opportunities sourced through Dodge and similar bid platforms
- Improve RFQ standards, workflow efficiencies, and preconstruction processes
- Help reduce estimator and engineering rework through stronger front-end project definition
- 5-10 years of relevant PEMB industry experience
- Strong working knowledge of MBS
- Experience reading and interpreting construction drawings and specifications
- Background in preconstruction, estimating support, drafting, engineering coordination, or sales engineering
- Ability to identify missing information, conflicts, and scope clarification needs
- Strong communication skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Detail-oriented mindset with ability to manage multiple opportunities simultaneously
- Design-build project exposure
- Bluebeam or PDF markup experience
- Familiarity with Dodge Construction Network or similar platforms
- Experience improving workflows or building new processes
- Exposure to AI-assisted document review tools
- Remote flexibility available; onsite preferred
- Supports Midwest sales operations
- Up to 10% travel
