POSITION SUMMARY

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) serves as a strategic partner to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and leadership team of the Northwest Arkansas Food Bank (NWAFB), responsible for the financial health and sustainability of the organization. The CFO oversees all financial operations, while also providing leadership for Human Resources and Information Technology functions. This role ensures strong internal controls, efficient systems, and people-centered policies that support the mission of the food bank.

ESSENTIAL

DUTIES, FUNCTIONS, AND RESPONSIBILITIES Financial Leadership & Strategy
  • Lead long-term financial planning, forecasting, and scenario modeling.
  • Advise CEO and Board on financial strategy, risk management, and sustainability.
  • Develop and monitor the annual budget in alignment with organizational priorities.
  • Present financial reports and insights to the Board of Directors.
  • Completes finance portion of the Quarterly Poundage Report (QPR) and manages overall process of completing the annual Network Activity Report (NAR).
  • Lead the modernization of financial systems and processes by leveraging technology, automation, and process redesign to enhance efficiency, scalability, accuracy, and decision-making capabilities.
  • Lead in the consistent adherence to well-designed internal controls and financial risk management practices that promote stewardship and proactively protect the organization’s financial and reputational assets.
Financial Operations & Compliance
  • Oversee accounting, general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, and monthly close.
  • Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards (GAAP) and grant requirements.
  • Manage audits, tax filings (e.g., 990), and regulatory reporting.
  • Maintain strong internal controls and financial policies.
  • Monitor all banking activities.
Human Resources Oversight
  • Oversee HR strategy, policies, and compliance (employment law, benefits, etc.)
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and retention efforts.
  • Ensure equitable and competitive compensation and benefits practices.
  • Promote a positive, inclusive workplace culture.
Information Technology Leadership
  • Oversee IT infrastructure, systems, and vendor relationships.
  • Ensure data security, integrity, and business continuity.
  • Support technology solutions for operations, logistics, and data reporting.
  • Partner with program teams to improve systems that support food distribution and impact tracking.
Organizational Leadership
  • Serve as a member of the senior leadership team.
  • Contribute to strategic planning and organizational decision-making.
  • Support cross-functional collaboration across departments.
  • Align financial, HR, and IT systems with mission-driven goals.
  • Manages Data & Impact Analyst while ensuring all data collected is secure, relevant and accessible to leadership to support ongoing decision-making.
EDUCATION & RELATED EXPERIENCE Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field.
  • 7–10+ years of progressive financial leadership experience.
  • Experience managing teams and multiple functional areas (finance required; HR/IT preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting and compliance.
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
Preferred
  • CPA or MBA.
  • Experience in a nonprofit, food bank, or human services organization.
  • Familiarity with grant management and government funding.
  • Experience overseeing HR and/or IT functions.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Experience in a complex organization relative to size and scope of the NWAFB from a financial and operational perspective.
  • Experience in inventory-intensive organization a plus.
  • Extensive experience with cash flow management and analysis.
  • Experience presenting to and providing critical financial information to executive teams and Board of Directors
  • Passion for the mission and values of the organization, as demonstrated by prior work and/or volunteer experience.
