Monday - Friday, 2:00 PM - 10:30 PM
The Laboratory Assistant / Report Writer works alongside senior staff in the performance laboratory to process lab samples, perform tests, and record and analyze results. This position has a strong emphasis on data entry, interpreting testing layouts, and drafting technical reports for home (1) and specialties (1) categories. The role requires a mix of hands-on laboratory equipment operation and basic computerized report generation to ensure testing compliance and accurate customer data reporting.
This is a contract role running through the end of the year.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Process laboratory samples, perform assigned tests, and accurately record and analyze results.
- Act as a Report Writer for home (1) and specialties (1) documentation.
- Build and adapt basic test setups and equipment required for testing performance.
- Perform tests using general laboratory equipment and tools as directed by engineering and technician staff.
- Conduct routine care, maintenance, and cleaning of designated test equipment and the surrounding work area.
- Operate computer terminals to input or extract data, utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel, and other available operational software.
- Follow defined test plans and datasheets precisely as directed.
- Evaluate test performance and sample operation to properly assess and read test results.
- Prepare clear charts, graphs, and reports to document and explain test data.
- Examine test samples, read measuring instruments, and review findings with supervisors.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and operational instructions.
- Examine customer samples as instructed and learn to operate basic testing protocols for each case.
- Communicate with customers during setup and operations to ensure proper testing evaluation.
- Record observed or calculated data accurately on designated data sheets and report findings to engineers.
- Integrate continuous improvement concepts and techniques into daily laboratory practices.
- Maintain strict adherence to the Underwriters Laboratories Code of Conduct, including all physical and digital security protocols.
- Perform other duties as directed by management.
- Basic computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and related office software.
- Good understanding of laboratory information systems and general laboratory equipment.
- Ability to develop a strong working knowledge of laboratory methods, instrumentation, and tracking systems.
- Ability to read, interpret, and follow technical blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
- Strong communication skills for interacting with internal engineering staff and external customers.
- Proficiency in recording data and utilizing computer software to generate charts and graphs.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific field is required.
