Working with the service manager, responsible for the safe, efficient, and profitable operation of the Service department. Oversees the work of the mechanics and is able to make proper diagnoses of all components and recommend repairs.

• Diagnostic ability of all components of the truck
• Help in writing up repair orders and communicating with drivers and owners to determine problems and solutions
• Schedule and assign jobs to employees according to their skills and knowledge, minimizing time lost between jobs
• Inspect and advise the mechanics on work as it progresses
• Track each customer job and advise the customer on time of completion, cost of repairs, and additional repairs
• Road‑test and dyno test trucks to diagnose problems and confirm repairs are complete
• Ensure buildings, grounds, and work areas are kept clean and neatly arranged; ensure all tools and equipment are maintained
• Help determine parts to be replaced and coordinate with the Parts Department to ensure availability
• Assist in completing repair orders by getting mechanics’ write‑ups, confirming parts billing, and adding needed lines to the ticket; ensure correct repair coding
• Be familiar with warranties on all parts and determine if a repair is warrantable
• Arrive at least thirty minutes before mechanics to analyze the work schedule
• Be willing to work additional hours as needed and perform other duties or functions as directed by management
• Help ensure safe working conditions for all employees

Minimum high school diploma required.

Minimum four years as a mechanic and at least two years as a shop foreman or lead mechanic.

Good interpersonal skills and the ability to interact well with customers, vendors, and co‑workers in a positive and constructive manner. Must also maintain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).

Essential ability to climb around, on, and under trucks to inspect and diagnose. Must be able to lift 50 pounds to the waist and 25 pounds to the shoulder. Reasonable accommodations may be made to help individuals with disabilities perform essential functions.
