Environmental Health and Safety Specialist
Full-time position.
Responsibilities- Implement programs and develop facility-specific procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory and company requirements.
- Integrate company and facility-level EHS management systems to maintain compliance, environmental protection, and safe operating conditions.
- Review and report regulatory compliance status and improvement initiatives.
- Maintain OSHA 300 log, Form 101, and other governmental and corporate database records.
- Coordinate and control an effective accident prevention program.
- Implement education and training to support regulatory and business requirements.
- Act as the contractor-plant representative to assure compliance of all process safety management (PSM)-related requirements from contractors.
- Provide resource and support to facility safety teams.
- Investigate all releases, injuries, and near-misses.
- Coordinate the Job Safety Analysis program, OSHA PPE compliance program, and maintain the safety data sheet (SDS) system.
- Conduct periodic inspections of plant machinery, equipment, and working environment to ensure conformance with safety and sanitary standards and regulations.
- Drive continuous improvement and deliver strong results from behavioral based processes.
- Maintain facility compliance records for permits. Review federal, state, and local regulation changes that impact permits and collaborate with regulatory agencies as needed.
- Identify and assess hazardous conditions and practices and develop hazard control practices and programs.
- HS diploma required. Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Chemical, Environmental Engineering/Science or related field preferred.
- 2+ years of EHS related experience required. Relevant internship/co‑op experience will be counted toward this.
- Advanced professional certification in safety (e.g., CSP, CIH) preferred.
- Basic knowledge of regulatory requirements and EHS policies, procedures, and programs required.
- Experience in life safety codes: EHS rules, HAZOP, training, principles of occupational safety and health, and industrial hygiene.
- Critical thinking with the ability to lead a team and good interpersonal communication.
- Strong coaching, facilitating and training skills.
