Unit: DCE Adjunct Faculty

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Teach one or more sections of integrated reading and writing, co‑requisite or standalone Composition 1, or Composition 2
  • Explore new pedagogies that accelerate and contextualize developmental instruction, such as the Reading, Writing and Reasoning accelerated learning model and the Accelerated Learning Program
  • Develop and use student‑centered pedagogies
  • Develop and use assessment strategies that maximize the developmental learning process and measure student learning outcomes
  • Develop and apply instructional methods that engage students of varying learning styles and abilities
  • Develop and apply technology in and out of the classroom
  • Use Blackboard Learning Management System to post syllabi, assignments, and grades
  • Participate in the end‑of‑the‑term grading session of a common final assessment

Fulfill terms of the faculty contract as set out in the Agreement between the Board of Higher Education and the Massachusetts Community College Council/Massachusetts Teachers Association for the Division of Continuing Education.

Requirements
  • Master's degree in English, or M.Ed. with a specialization in Reading or Language Arts
  • Classroom teaching of English, reading, college composition or developmental English in high school or college
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusive teaching, continuous professional improvement, developmental education, inclusive pedagogies, and use of technology to support student learning
  • Willingness to work collegially with a diverse body of faculty and staff
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the role of the community college in higher education
Preferred Qualifications
  • 3 to 5 years of teaching experience in a community college
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Blackboard LMS, and PC
Salary Information

DCE adjunct faculty members are paid in accordance with the DCE salary step schedule:

  • Step 1 – $1,397 per credit
  • Step 2 – $1,487 per credit
  • Step 3 – $1,585 per credit
  • Step 4 – $1,688 per credit
