Job Description

The High School Department Coordinator (DC) must be a certified teacher who will assist the building principal and assistant principals in implementing district, school, and department goals.

This position is a three-year appointment, subject to annual review, that supports teachers by facilitating professional development/curriculum, coordinating management and operation of the department, and assisting in the supervision and observation of departmental teachers.

Responsibilities
  • Provide overall daily supervision of department staff and contribute to the observation component of the evaluation process for department members.
  • Conduct walkthrough observations for all departmental teachers.
  • Deliver course releases: DCs supervising 5–7 FTEs will have 3 course releases per year with at least one release each trimester; 8–10 FTEs will have 4 releases; 11–18 FTEs will have 5 releases; for more than 18 FTEs, an agreement will be reached in writing.
Qualifications
  • Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary license in the specific subject area(s).
  • At least 3 to 5 years of experience in the content area.
  • Preferred but not required: pursuit of an advanced degree in educational leadership (e.g., Master’s or CAGS).

Supervision & Evaluation
  • DC will be evaluated by the Principal and/or designee.
  • DC will provide daily supervision of department staff.
  • DC will be responsible for walkthrough observations of departmental teachers.
Compensation & Work Year
  • Annual stipend: $3,436.63
  • Work schedule:

    185 days a year, including one additional summer day. Up to 7 additional summer days may be required; these will be compensated at the per diem rate.
