Job Description

Lowell Public School District, Murkland Elementary School – Lowell, Massachusetts

Position: Parent Liaison
Reports to: Principal of Record
Employment: 2026–2027 School Year (15–18 hours per week)
Pay: $15 per hour

Professional Responsibilities
  • Assist in the support and implementation of District/School goals of parent involvement.
  • Support the planning and implementation of meaningful programs and activities for parents.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of the school’s USIP parent involvement goals and objectives.
  • Maintain records related to School/Family Compacts.
  • Develop and disseminate parent information to increase knowledge of school and district programs.
  • Attend monthly parent liaison training/meetings.
  • Work flexible hours and attend evening meetings as needed.
  • Coordinate and integrate parent involvement strategies with other city programs and agencies.
  • Make parent contacts through letters, newsletters, phone conversations, and home visits (when necessary with social workers, nurses, or teachers).
  • Collaborate with parent/teachers to plan programs that increase parental participation in school activities.
  • Conduct needs/interest surveys to identify subjects important to parents and their children for workshop planning.
  • Provide parent training to help parents support their children’s basic skills at home.
  • Organize a parent volunteer program for classroom support.
  • Perform other tasks as required by the Title I Program.
Requirements
  • A High School Diploma.
  • Demonstrated dissemination skills for printing newsletters and other publications.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and attend evening meetings.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Preference may be given to a parent of a child attending the school.
