General Summary of Position:

This being an internal opportunity, only current UML Employees, irrespective of Bargaining units are eligible to apply for this position.

This full-time position provides academic advising, enrollment, personalized case management, and student success support to newly admitted, and currently enrolled students throughout the student lifecycle. The Graduate, Online & Professional Studies (GPS) Academic Advisor serves as a primary point of contact for students, helping them navigate academic requirements, university policies, registration processes, and available resources while promoting persistence, retention, and degree completion.

The person in this role must confidently and accurately leverage data, CRM tools, student success reports, and university systems to identify and prioritize student needs and develop proactive outreach strategies.

Minimum Qualifications (Required) for both
GPS, Academic Advisor I and II:

• Work effectively in a metric- and performance-driven environment while meeting established goals related to new admit yield, retention, re-enrollment, student engagement, outreach activity, and other departmental success metrics.
• Motivate and engage students; clearly communicate academic and administrative policies; maintain accurate records; manage a high-volume caseload; and provide responsive, student-centered service.
• Demonstrate strong technology, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities in a high-volume environment.

Additional

Minimum Qualifications (Required) for GPS, Academic Advisor I:

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree required.

Experience:

• Minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in one or more of the following areas: academic advising, admissions, career advising, counseling, registrar services, transfer services, training or facilitation, student services, customer service, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working in higher education, particularly with online or non-traditional students.
• Experience using a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system and student information system.
• Experience maintaining accurate electronic records and case documentation.
• Experience managing a high-volume caseload or handling inbound and outbound communications.
• Experience providing support through Zoom or other virtual meeting platforms.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and databases.
• Ability to learn, interpret, and explain complex academic policies and procedures.
• Demonstrated ability to motivate and support students in achieving their educational goals.

Education and Experience:

Candidates must meet one of the following qualifications:

• Master’s degree and two (2) years of relevant professional experience in academic advising, admissions, student success, retention, enrollment, or a related field; or
• Bachelor’s degree and four (4) years of relevant professional experience in academic advising, admissions, student success, retention, enrollment, or a related field; or
