General Summary of Position:
This being a promotional opportunity, only current UML Employees within the same Bargaining unit are eligible to apply for this position.
Provides operational, technical, and instructional support for the Department of Biomedical and Nutritional Sciences (BNS) by coordinating teaching laboratories and managing the Biomedical Analysis Laboratory (BAL). Responsibilities include oversight of analytical workflows, coordination of services for internal and external investigators, supervision and training of student personnel, maintenance of data integrity and compliance, and support of service‑related documentation and billing coordination.
Essential DutiesCoordinates BAL operations including workflow organization, quality control checks, sample receipt and tracking, documentation, and reporting. Serves as liaison with investigators and collaborating units. Maintains standard operating procedures and supports compliance requirements.
Provides instructional and technical support for assigned BNS and MLS laboratory courses. Prepares laboratory activities, instructional materials, equipment setup, and provides technical troubleshooting.
Recruits, trains, schedules, and supervises undergraduate and graduate student laboratory personnel. Provides guidance on laboratory techniques, safety practices, and data documentation, and evaluates performance.
Provides administrative support related to clinical coordination activities, including scheduling assistance and documentation maintenance.
Implement laboratory safety practices in accordance with University, OSHA, and CDC requirements. Maintains safety documentation and supports training related to hazardous materials and equipment.

Job Duties:
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the Chair.
- Occasional travel between campuses and for off‑site meetings
- Some weekend work anticipated for recruitment activities
- Master’s degree in biomedical sciences or related field with 1–2 years of related experience or bachelor’s degree in biomedical sciences or related field with 4–5 years of related experience.
- American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Medical Laboratory Science Certification preferred.
- Experience teaching in a clinical and skills laboratory environment for undergraduates is required, preferably within the past 5 years.
- Demonstrated knowledge of safety rules (OSHA, CDC).
- Demonstrated skill and experience (4–5 years) in the clinical operation and use of various laboratory testing equipment and instrumentation, including their proper set up, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
- Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations of faculty, students and colleagues.
- Proficient in English (oral and written)
- ASCP certification or equivalent preferred. Experience with laboratory coordination or service‑based laboratory operations.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated leadership skills.

- Expertise and sensitivity in working with learners at various levels.

This position is a full‑time, benefited SEIU union position. This is an internal promotional opportunity. Grade P20 range minimum $85,689, 25th quartile $98,542 and midpoint of $111,396.
