Position: Supervising Attorney - New England

Job Summary

Responsible for leading and managing a team of attorneys representing clients in all levels of insurance defense litigation to ensure competent, ethical, efficient, and diligent representation of clients in all assigned cases. Collaborates with key internal and external stakeholders to drive business outcomes.

Essential Job Functions
  • Manage overall performance of the assigned team to ensure competent, ethical, and diligent representation of insurance defense clients.
  • Oversee legal file handling by assigned attorneys, ensuring adherence to department policies, practices, and procedures, including timely and effective communications with clients and claims.
  • Assist with the achievement of office goals, collaborating with support leadership, and utilizing a formal quality assurance program to drive high‑quality file handling.
  • Proactively work with leadership and stakeholders on staffing recommendations, hiring, onboarding, team building, training, development, engagement, retention, and succession planning.
  • Lead a high‑performing team with a culture of trust, collaboration, and transparency, promote achievement of office goals, and continuously improve through performance management.
  • Handle assigned insurance defense matters that are primarily moderate to high complexity and/or exposure in all relevant courts, fostering collaboration and partnerships, and communicating with stakeholders to achieve client, department, and company goals.
  • Use analytics, metrics, and financial analysis to help develop and drive strategies, and regularly communicate changes to goals, strategies, policies, procedures, and everyday work.
  • Engage in discussions with claims executives on legal aspects of high‑complexity/exposure cases and litigation strategies.
Physical Actions

The job may be performed in‑person at a Farmers office or virtually at an approved alternative work location. It may include field work outdoors. Typical duties involve sitting or standing for prolonged periods, occasional walking or moving objects up to 50 pounds, manipulating equipment, typing, and other fine‑motor tasks. Travel between office and field locations may be required.

Physical Environment

Worked in an open office working environment with normal distractions, noise, and interruptions. Requires extended periods of sitting or standing, occasional reaching overhead, lifting and carrying light objects, and operating a computer for extensive periods.

Education Requirements

Bachelor’s degree preferred. Licensed to practice law in applicable states required upon hire. Must be able to handle any matter within the state(s) of licensure and courts of admittance; may need admission in other jurisdictions.

Experience Requirements

Six years as a licensed, practicing attorney and in good standing with the State Bar in the state(s) where the position is located. Experience handling and trying high‑exposure and/or complex cases preferred. Multi‑state jurisdictional practices and leadership experience or comparable experience preferred.

Strong verbal and written communication skills, excellent negotiation skills, problem‑solving ability, effective conflict management, sound judgment and decision making, ability to work within tight time frames, build and manage effective teams, inspire and develop staff, and deliver coaching and feedback.

    Albany County, NY/Cleveland, OH – $146,925 – $215,490; WA – $137,775 – $262,000.
