Job Overview

The RN II independently provides direct nursing care to patients and their families in accordance with established policies, procedures, and practices.

• Massachusetts RN Licensure.
• 12 months – less than 3 years of RN experience.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
• Department‑specific certifications relevant to the type of patient care may be required.

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

M3 or R4 – Medical Surgical, D3 – Intermediate Care and Oncology

36 hours – Full Time

Evenings/Nights – 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM

• Participate in and maintain awareness of performance improvement initiatives.
• Evaluate and integrate evidence‑based practice and research into clinical practice.
• Conduct and document accurate clinical assessments.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate the patient’s individualized plan of care.
• Use professional nursing judgment to individualize the plan of care based on assessment of the patient’s needs.
• Manage own patient assignments by delegating effectively based on patient needs and team skills.
• Develop a comprehensive educational plan for the patient and family, utilizing appropriate resources and documenting per department standards.
• Recognize patient/family rights through support of informed decisions and advanced directives.
• Continuously evaluate and revise the care plan according to changes in the patient’s health status.
• Develop a comprehensive discharge plan utilizing appropriate resources and referrals, including community resources.
• Support development of new staff members and facilitate their transition into the unit.
• Guide the professional growth of department staff through precepting.
• Participate in professional development by identifying learning needs and seeking appropriate education.
• Participate in departmental committees as needed.

• Occasional lifting of 30–35 lbs and turning patients.
• Prolonged standing and walking.
• Occasional twisting, bending, reaching, pushing/pulling, sitting, kneeling, and squatting.
• Exposure to infectious disease and possible carcinogenic chemicals.
• Exposure to blood‑borne pathogens.
• Requires fine manual dexterity to lift and maneuver patients.
• Requires visual and aural acuity necessary to monitor patient care.

• Ability to effectively communicate with patients, families, physicians, and the healthcare team.
• Knowledge of and application of the nursing process.
