This role focuses on providing professional and nonprofessional nursing care services in accordance with physician orders. In addition, the role focuses on performing the following Nursing Leadership duties:

Job Overview

The Clinical Manager oversees the daily clinical and administrative operations of designated unit(s). The Clinical Manager prepares staff schedules, requests, and allocates resources and ensures that patient care is aligned with the goals, mission, and vision of Tufts Medicine.

The PCU is a 36‑bed unit for telemetry, step down, or intermediate level of care. Patients requiring peritoneal and hemodialysis, cardiac catheterizations, pacemakers, internal cardiac defibrillator placement, post‑operative monitoring, and interventional radiology may be placed on PCU. Our patients receive continuous cardiac monitoring, and some may also receive continuous oxygen saturation monitoring. Patient can be on high flow oxygen, Bi‑Pap ventilation, and continuous cardiac intravenous medications.

The nurse–patient ratio is less than on the med/surg floors, allowing patients to be more closely monitored.

Job Description

Minimum Qualifications

Massachusetts RN Licensure.
5 Years of RN Experience with at least 1 year as a charge/lead RN.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

Preferred Qualifications

Master of Science in Nursing (MSN).

Duties and Responsibilities

Uses knowledge and expertise to identify potential problems and/or resources for patients and families.

In collaboration with the director, ensures all staff maintains competency‑based practice based upon patient population.

Participates in nursing research.

Identifies avenues to pursue own professional growth.

Keeps current on regulatory issues and trends and employs strategies to meet standards in a proactive manner.

Supervises staff by evaluating work performance, providing guidance, and timely feedback based on outcome measures.

Participates in interdisciplinary rounds to address patient/family needs, and discharge planning.

Recognizes, responds, and provides follow‑up on issues, concerns, and suggestions on behalf of the patient population and staff.

Allocates resources and coordinates services to optimize patient care and services.

Develops and monitors operating and capital budget; implements strategies to improve efficiency and reduce costs.

Performs performance reviews with staff.

Participates in staff interview process, provides direction and discipline to staff as appropriate, and orients new staff to facility.

Creates and fosters a learning environment that facilitates the professional growth and development of staff.

Develops and implements processes to enhance operations and practices for ongoing quality improvement.

Develops, implements, and monitors written policies and procedures.

Leads and/or participates in hospital, departmental and multidisciplinary teams, committees, councils and special projects.
