Cambria County is seeking a kind and capable candidate with fiscal bookkeeping or professional accounting knowledge to begin a rewarding career in public service. This Accountant 1 position is a great opportunity to work in the classification, analysis, and reporting of financial data while supporting important programs that help guide children and youth toward safe and stable futures.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position analyzes financial transactions and prepares documented financial statements and reports to control and account for funds and to analyze and project financial data. Work supports essential programs including Children and Youth Services and Juvenile Probation and the people they serve. As an Accountant 1, you will perform the following duties:

  • Budget Preparation:
    Assist in preparing and modifying program budgets for the use of state and county funds
  • Agency Planning Support:
    Help prepare fiscal forms for annual plans; develop and maintain agency manuals and detailed instructions for fiscal processes; and train fiscal technicians
  • Invoice Management:
    Post invoices from service providers, prepare and submit foster care invoices, and process other program invoices as needed
  • Fiscal Processes:
    Help prepare general ledger reports and trial balances, journal entries, cost allocations; reconcile client income; and oversee and verify the completion of service provider contract files
  • Eligibility Calculations:
    Prepare income calculations for Title IV-E Foster Care eligibility and medical assistance determination before applications are sent for approval; maintain eligibility and status records
  • Audit Participation:
    Pull and analyze reports, gather information, and conduct internal audit of petty cash fund
Work Schedule and Additional Information
  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework:
    You will not have the option to telework in this position.

Required Experience, Training & EligibilityQUALIFICATIONSMinimum Experience and Training Requirements
  • One year of professional accounting experience and graduation from a four year college or university, including or supplemented by 15 credits in accounting; or
  • One year as a Fiscal Technician and 15 college credits in accounting; or
  • Five years of bookkeeping experience; and 15 college credits in accounting.
