Abington Art Center is seeking a Ceramics Technician to work 3-4 days a week for our busy ceramics program. The ideal candidate will have experience working as a ceramics technician in a community studio or school. Preference will be given to candidates with strong ceramics technical skills, familiarity with kiln loading and unloading, as well as knowledge of glaze mixing and materials, firing processes, clay bodies, ceramic studio maintenance and practices.

Duties

and Responsibilities
  • Cleaning and upkeep of all areas of the ceramics studio
  • Wheel maintenance and care
  • Ordering ceramic materials
  • Receiving orders and stocking the studio
  • Kiln loading and unloading
  • Changing kiln elements and thermocouples
  • Maintaining all kiln furniture
  • Following and enforcing all ceramics studio guidelines
  • Assigning cleaning tasks to studio monitors
Qualifications
  • BFA in Ceramics or related art field
  • Experience working in ceramics field
  • Ability to work independently and determine priorities when multiple tasks must be completed
  • Ability to remain on task
  • Experience with kiln loading, glaze mixing, reclaiming clay
  • Ability to repeatedly lift 50-75 lbs without assistance
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, instructors, and staff
  • Proficient with the Google Suite (gmail, doc, sheets, drive)
  • PA State Clearances to work with children required

Pay Rate: $16.00 and pay commensurate with teaching and professional experience
Benefits: PTO, use of the studio for personal work and a flexible schedule.

Located on a historic 27-acre campus in Jenkintown, PA, just outside of Center City Philadelphia, Abington Art Center presents art exhibitions, creative programs, community forums and cultural events for the eastern Montgomery County and Philadelphia area. The Studio School provides classes in painting, drawing, printmaking, paper making, ceramics and metals for both adults and youth.

BFA in Ceramics preferred;
Minimum 2-4 year degree in Art Education or Art.
