Job Scope

The Clinical Lab Automation Service Support Specialist is a senior-level hybrid role that combines the technical depth of a Field Service Engineer with the scientific expertise of a Field Applications Scientist. This position serves as the primary on-site technical and scientific authority for all company instrumentation and workflow-related issues in highly automated clinical laboratories. He/she will resolve complex technical problems, acts as an onsite scientific collaborator, partnering closely with laboratory leadership to optimize workflows, support assay development, deliver advanced training, troubleshoot assay or performance concerns, and provide scientific consultation to improve system utilization and clinical outcomes.

The Clinical Lab Automation Service Support Specialist must have a blend of high-level technical skill, strong interpersonal skills, deep understanding of clinical lab automation, and the scientific knowledge to support assay performance and workflow optimization.

This role is 100% on-site at a customer facility and is not a remote position.

Duties and Responsibilites
  • Perform installation, configuration, calibration, verification, and repair of all company instrumentation and automation platforms
  • Serve as the on-site expert for complex mechanical, electrical, software, and IT interface issues
  • Conduct preventive maintenance, system upgrades, and instrument performance evaluations
  • Ensure detailed, compliant documentation of all service activities
  • Troubleshoot assay- or workflow-related issues and provide scientific training
  • Serve as the primary contact for customer complaints involving company instrumentation
  • Lead investigations, documentation, and resolution using strong interpersonal skills
  • Understand system integration across automation, middleware, LIS, and robotics
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Education, Experience and Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree Biomedical Engineering, Medical Laboratory Science, Electronics, or related field required
  • Bachelor's Degree Biomedical Engineering, Medical Laboratory Science, Electronics, or related field preferred
  • 3+ Years 3–7+ years of experience in clinical lab automation, medical devices, or advanced field service roles required
  • 3+ Years Strong hands-on diagnostic skills across mechanical, electrical, software, and network components required
  • 3+ Years Scientific knowledge is sufficient to support assay behavior, workflow design, and laboratory performance discussions required
  • 3+ Years Experience working in or supporting clinical laboratories (chemistry, immunoassay, hematology, molecular, etc.). preferred
