Job Summary
This is training level work that develops the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform social services work. The trainee receives instruction in the principles, practices, procedures, and application of social services work methods and techniques. Exposure is provided to counseling, referral, placement, and adoptive functions for children, youth, adults, and aging individuals, individuals with mental illness or intellectual disabilities, family medical care, and correctional rehabilitation.
The trainee works under close supervision of a technical or managerial superior.
- Receive instruction in the principles, practices, procedures, and application of social services work methods and techniques.
- Participate in counseling, referral, placement, and adoptive functions to provide services to children, youth, adults, and aging individuals, individuals with mental illness and/or intellectual disabilities, families, medical care, and correctional rehabilitation.
- Communicate with individuals, families, representatives of private and public welfare agencies, professional and community groups, and the general public.
- Perform work under the close supervision of a technical or managerial superior.
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, social services, sociology, psychology, criminal justice, behavioral health, public health, human services, human or child development, education, or a closely related field.
- For the bilingual specialty: sufficient training and/or experience to understand and speak fluently and clearly in English and the designated non‑English language.
- Physical ability to perform the duties and to work in the environmental conditions required for this class.
- Possession of a valid proper class motor vehicle operator’s license issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, if required by work assignment.
- Submission of an official college or university transcript indicating completion of the educational requirement at the time of application.
- Compliance with required criminal background checks (FBI, State Police, Pennsylvania Child Abuse background checks).
