Position: County Caseworker 1 (Local Government) - Allegheny County C&Y (Multiple Vacancies)

The County Caseworker 1 position with the Allegheny County Child Welfare Services offers a chance to support families during important times of need. This role helps you grow critical skills while serving your community. You will work with a team that values safety, stability, and strong communication. This position provides protective and supportive services for children and families to help improve safety and stability. The work ensures that families receive guidance, resources, and support throughout their involvement with the agency. As a County Caseworker 1, you will perform the following duties:

  • Family Support: Provide protective and supportive services for abused or neglected children and their families
  • Counseling Services: Offer guidance and counseling to children, families, foster parents, or adoptive parents
  • Case Coordination: Work with families from referral through completion of agency involvement
  • Crisis Response: Participate in crisis intervention and conferencing to support family safety and planning
  • Court Participation: Present case facts and provide testimony in Children Court when required
  • Training Completion: Perform duties under supervision during probation and complete required classroom and field training
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment.
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 1-hour lunch.
    • Schedules vary and travel is required.
  • Various CYF Locations within Allegheny County
  • Telework:
    You will not have the option to telework in this position.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 and two years of college level course work which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences;
    or
  • A bachelor's degree which includes or is supplemented by successful completion of 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences;
    or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences and one year of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 or in a similar position performing paraprofessional case management functions.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within two months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.
Other Requirements
  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
