About OPREXOPREX is a growth-focused general contractor pursuing larger, more complex projects with discipline and selectivity. We have operated in the $20M revenue range and are building toward approximately $50M in 2026
, while putting the financial infrastructure and operating rigor in place to support a materially larger business beyond that.
This is not a maintenance hire. This is a build-the-next-layer hire.
We are looking for a Construction Controller who can strengthen financial visibility, tighten project reporting, improve cash discipline, and help leadership scale the business with more control and confidence.
About the RoleThe Construction Controller will own the accounting and project-finance rhythm of the business. This person will lead monthly close, improve WIP accuracy, strengthen billing and retainage discipline, increase visibility into change order exposure and cash flow, and help leadership make better decisions as project volume and complexity grow.
This role is for someone who understands construction accounting in the real world — not just clean books, but job-cost visibility, margin protection, billing discipline, and reporting leadership can actually use.
What You’ll Own- Monthly close and financial statement accuracy
- Job-cost accounting and WIP reporting
- Percentage-of-completion and cost-to-complete visibility
- Under billing / overbilling, retainage, and billing backlog reporting
- Change order tracking and exposure visibility
- AR aging and collections support
- Practical cash flow forecasting
- Project-level reporting that improves accountability across operations
- Financial readiness for lenders, surety partners, CPA firms, and leadership
In your first 6–12 months, you will help OPREX:
- Build a reliable monthly close and reporting cadence
- Improve WIP accuracy and confidence in project financials
- Strengthen control over billing, retainage, and change orders
- Improve short-term cash visibility and collections discipline
- Create clearer project-level financial reporting for leadership and PMs
- Reduce rework, blind spots, and financial noise as the company grows
- 7+ years of experience in construction accounting
- Strong experience with:
- job-cost accounting
- WIP reporting
- percentage-of-completion accounting
- retainage
- progress billing
- change orders
- project-based cash flow management
- Experience leading month-end close and producing accurate financial statements
- Ability to work across accounting, project management, operations, and leadership
- Strong ownership mindset and willingness to work hands-on in a growing company
- Experience in a growth-stage contractor environment
- Experience supporting lender, surety, or external financial review readiness
- Experience improving systems, reporting workflows, and internal controls
- CPA, CMA, or similar credential preferred but not required
- Experience leading or upgrading accounting team capability
You’ll likely be a strong fit if you:
- have real construction accounting depth
- know how to turn project financial data into decision-useful reporting
- are comfortable building structure, not just maintaining it
- can partner well with operations, not hide from it
- want to help build the financial infrastructure of a much larger business
This is a chance to help shape the finance function of a contractor that is intentionally scaling. You won’t be stepping into a narrow back-office seat. You’ll help build the reporting discipline, project visibility, and financial rigor needed for the next stage of growth.
For the right person, this is a meaningful opportunity to help build a stronger construction business from the inside.
