Fleet Technician Assistant
Job DescriptionAssists technicians repairing a variety of automobiles, trucks, and heavy equipment. Learns and performs routine preventive maintenance duties requiring limited experience.
Essential FunctionsAssist in moving vehicles to and from auction lot, Radio Shop, and vendor locations;
Strip vehicles of decals and other paraphernalia for auction;
Prepare make ready on new vehicles, including decals, license plates, and other vehicle accessories;
Check in parts deliveries;
Run parts to and from vendor locations for items not kept in the parts inventory;
Assist in monthly parts inventory cycle counts and order parts as necessary;
Clean and maintain fleet maintenance facilities;
Learn service writing duties, including data input and upkeep of service order logs;
Perform related duties as directed.
Completion of a high school diploma or the equivalent with an additional one year of experience in automotive repair and maintenance; or any combination of relevant education and experience which provides the following knowledge, abilities, and skills:
Physical Exam Required Valid TX Driver's License
Knowledge of:
Basic techniques of automotive service and use of mechanic tools. Ability/ Skill to:
Perform basic auto service and repair;
Use pneumatic tools and tire machine;
Communicate effectively with others.
Physical Requirements:
Frequently lift and carry up to 25 pounds;
Frequently stand and walk during the shift;
Occasionally push and pull objects;
Frequently flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially at the knees;
Occasionally rotate upper trunk to the left or right while sitting or standing;
Frequently reach above, at, or below shoulder height;
Coordinate eye, hand, and foot movement in order to operate a vehicle.
Part-time employees who have at least six (6) months continuous employment may be paid for all holidays except the Veterans Day floating holiday. Part-time employees are not eligible for the Veteran's Day floating holiday because City offices are not closed on that day. The number of hours granted these employees as holiday pay is based on the average number of hours normally worked in a day.
The City designates the eleven (11) following dates as holidays to be observed with pay:
