Researches and develops opportunities to expand the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) services and programs offered by the Department, primarily with groups funded or supported by the USDA. Performs the required program development activities for projects and concepts as assigned and identify other potential initiatives. Creates and/or maintains a database of contact information for utilization in outreach. Informs and educates citizens and organizations in the service area about dispute resolution and mediation in particular through meetings, presentations, and telephone to further enhance outreach initiatives.

Position requires excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to interact with public. Overnight travel throughout Texas is required and could be up to 50% of time.

  • Develops opportunities for presentations to groups funded or supported by the USDA
  • Develops sponsor ships and collaborations to support a variety of outreach activities as identified
  • Makes presentations to the public
  • Provides detailed information regarding collaborations, meeting, presentations, and other activities to supervisor(s) and others as required
  • Monitors the agricultural and rural Texas environment through television, trade publications and other means of information gathering
  • Assists with annual USDA mediator training as needed
  • Submits summaries of presentations
  • Types letters, reports, orders, and other communications
  • Gathers, maintains and inputs data for generation of reports and other activities
  • Assists manager with marketing, educational, promotional, program development and other appropriate tasks
  • Attends meetings and training sessions
  • Assists with responding to inquiries
  • Conducts research as projects necessitate
  • Travels to assigned and scheduled appointments
  • Completes annual mediator continuing education requirements
  • Mediates when necessary
  • Performs such other duties as may be assigned
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty with proficiency and minimum supervision. Prefer college graduate or equivalent job related experience. Must be a trained mediator or be able to complete Basic Mediation Training as available within Department. Good communication skills, organization skills, ability to interact with the public, and ability to prioritize are required.

Texas motor vehicle operator's license and automobile insurance or available alternate means of transportation in the relevant service area is required. Must not have been convicted of a Crime of Moral Turpitude.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Prefer individual with knowledge of rural Texas and/or agricultural-related activities; individual with excellent communication skills, both written and verbal; outstanding grammar and vocabulary; experience in public speaking; capable of researching programs and projects in a variety of ways, utilizing multiple sources and resources; knowledge of office procedures; ability to operate office equipment; proficient in a variety of computer software programs; ability to learn about ADR and USDA services;

organizational and multi-tasking skills; energetic, independent and self-motivated team player; follow oral and written instruction; maintain effective working relationships; communicate with the public.
