The Whitacre College of Engineering at Texas Tech University comprises seven academic departments:
Electrical & Computer, Chemical, Civil & Environmental & Construction, Industrial, Mechanical, Petroleum, and Computer Science. It offers over thirty degree programs to nearly 6,600 students, including more than 1,300 graduate students. Research funding has seen significant growth, with awards totaling $36 million in FY'24. The college’s major research strengths include wind science & engineering, pulsed power and power electronics, microscale and nanoscale devices, semiconductor materials, medical imaging, bioengineering, energetics, intelligent software systems, and polymer materials.
the Department/School/Area
The Department of Mechanical Engineering awarded 283 undergraduate, 38 MS, and 16 PhD degrees in AY 2024‑25. Department enrollment includes 1,739 undergraduate students and 148 graduate students. Among the 33 tenure‑track, tenured, and professors of practice, roughly 30 % are women and minorities. Recent faculty have been awarded nearly $4 million in externally sponsored research, 70 % from federal sources. Faculty are known for cited work on bio‑inspired devices, computational mechanics, vortex dynamics, turbulence, microfluidics, nanoimprinting, physiological microstructure, cardiovascular dynamics, nanomedicine, energetic and biological materials, and robust control methods.
Recognitions include membership in the US National Academy of Engineering, foreign Academies of Engineering and the Sciences, Thomson‑Reuters highly cited scholar status, PECASE, Young Investigator DOD awards, and NSF CAREER awards.
- Teach courses in Mechanical Engineering 2315, Computational Techniques, and other core mechanical courses.

Faculty QualificationsPhD in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering field. Ability to teach effectively. The position may be full‑time or part‑time depending on department needs. This position is classified as Security Sensitive and requires a criminal background check if selected.
