About the Department/School/Area:The teacher education department in the College of Education has an innovative teacher preparation program that meets the unique needs of all our students. In collaboration with school districts and community college partners across Texas, Tech Teach, our clinically intensive, competency-based program, is preparing educators who are ready to impact students on their first day in the classroom.
PositionDescription:
The Department of Teacher Education in the College of Education at Texas Tech University invites applications for a full-time 9-month academic appointment Assistant Professor of Practice in Teacher Education for K-12 Special Populations with an emphasis in ESL or Special Education or both. In this position description, Special Populations refers to candidates who have received training, completed graduate-level coursework in ESL, Special Education or both, and have experience working with students who receive services through Special Education and English as a Second Language (ESL) programs in the United States.
Responsibilitiesof a successful candidate include but are not limited to:
- Developing, teaching, and researching the effects of theory-based program and curricular interventions for increasing teacher candidates’ instructional competency for Special populations
- Taking a leadership and collaborative role in Special Populations
- Working with instructional faculty to ensure high-fidelity implementation of research-supported improvements around quality of delivery and content in Special Populations
- Develop and teach undergraduate courses in Special Populations in both face-to-face and online formats
- Collaborate on research projects
Essential Functions:
At Texas Tech University, the Professor of Practice title is used to recruit individuals with exceptional backgrounds and achievements in academic, business, government, or other professional practice. Primary responsibilities normally will be to teach in an area of expertise, mentor students in professional and career preparation, and liaise with professional contacts and entities on behalf of the department or program.
