Job Title: Deaf Interpreter

Primary PurposeProvide interpreting services for hearing impaired students in a variety of educational settings.
QualificationsEducation/Certification: High school diploma or GED;
Valid certification as interpreter granted by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf
Must be 18 years of age;
Ability to interpret in an educational setting;
Knowledge of interpreter role and Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf Code of Ethics;
Ability to communicate effectively;
Ability to work with hearing impaired students;
Ability to read and interpret documents;
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence;
Ability to speak effectively to groups
Some experience working with children.
Major Responsibilities And Duties Instructional Support- Interpret in educational settings including classrooms, co-curricular activities, school‑related programs and meetings, conferences, staff development, and other situations.
- Attend and interpret Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee meetings.
- Tutor hearing impaired students under the direction of classroom teacher.
- Maintain administrative records and prepare required reports.
- Help manage student behavior. This includes intervening in crisis situations.
- Assume responsibility for learning and adapting to each student's communication needs.
- Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of assigned students.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Participate in professional development programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned.
- Support and align work with the mission, vision, and beliefs of the district.
- Follow and support board policies in areas of related responsibility.
- Ensure district resources are managed effectively to maximize resources for student learning.
- Share in the development and implementation of district success plans.
- Actively participate in ongoing development to improve work quality and district contribution.
- Model integrity, work ethic, and professionalism as a suitable example for LISD students.

Repetitive hand motion. Maintain emotional control under stress. Moderate stooping, bending, and lifting. Works outside and inside.
