Functional

Title:

Adjunct Laboratory Instructor

Classification: Part Time - exempt

Division: Academics

Department: Chemistry and Biochemistry

Reports To: Chair of Chemistry and Biochemistry

Primary Function: Teach chemistry labs as requested; up to 6 credited hours (4 laboratory sections) per term

Major Duties
  • The instructor will teach labs as requested. This includes syllabus preparation, grading, testing, and keeping posted office hours (2-4 hours per week).
  • The instructor will supervise teaching assistants insuring they are prepping and cleaning up after labs.
  • The instructor will participate and aassist with departmental events and meetings as requested.
  • The instructor will participate in laboratory safety meetings as a part of the LCU laboratory training program. As a part of this training the expectation is that the instructor will follow all lab safety protocols and handle waste disposal as directed. Records of attendance and training topics are housed in the chemistry stockroom.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to help students, faculty, and staff in a professional manner.
  • Strong ability to multitask and problem solve.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in the work environment.

    Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality is essential.

Education and Experience:

Degree or advanced hours in Chemistry. Biochemistry or a science-related field and previous teaching experience.

Physical Requirements:

  • Be ambulatory around campus and in buildings.
  • Required to regularly sit and stand.
  • Frequently use wrist, hands and/or fingers to make small repetitive movements such as typing, distributing mail and picking up small objects.
  • Ability to talk frequently to convey detailed and/or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly or quickly.
  • Be able to hear average or normal conversations and receive verbal information.
  • Required to lift packages and/or move heavy objects, 50+lbs.
