Position Description

The School of Music in the J.T. & Margaret Talking ton College of Visual & Performing Arts at Texas Tech University invites applications for a full-time, 9-month Visiting Assistant Professor in Music Education and Strings position to begin September 1, 2026. This is a music education position (strings specialist) that encompasses duties in the music education courses, as well as the possibility to teach applied upper strings to music majors.

Functions

At Texas Tech University, the Visiting Professor Title designates a full-time, non-tenure-acquiring position of a limited duration, usually one semester or academic year. Visiting faculty are expected to perform instructional duties, engage with students, and participate in unit-level meetings and business. In line with TTU’s strategic priorities to engage and empower a dynamic student body, applicants should have experience working with a breadth of student populations at the undergraduate level.

Required Qualifications
  • Earned doctorate in music education or related field prior to the start date of the position.
  • Demonstrated experience as a string specialist in music education.
  • Record of a minimum of three years of successful EC‑12 public/private school teaching experience as a string music educator.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching applied lessons in upper strings, violin preferred.
  • Demonstrated skills as a performer in upper strings, violin preferred.
  • Successful teaching of string pedagogy-related courses at the university level.
  • Experience leading and participating in community engagement scholarship, such as string-project and after‑school programs, or other.
