As a Data Center Project Engineer, you will be part of a creative, diverse team solving problems constructing Amazon Data Centers. Our data centers are energy efficient and cost-effective. You will work with partner teams such as Operations, Networking, Controls, Security, and Commissioning to build data centers that support our customers. You will be on the construction site daily, interacting with construction managers and stakeholders, and responsible for supporting fast, high-quality delivery of data center construction.
You will be part of the onsite Construction Management team and will own communication coordination with vendors, information workflow, and document management including requests for information (RFI), change orders, reporting, and schedule updates.
The Data Center Project Engineer will be responsible for:
- Establishing communication and coordination across a data center region’s general contractors, stakeholders, and internal teams. This includes region-wide changes to construction trailer setup, COVID-19 testing procedures, or document access locations.
- Developing and maintaining a tracking system for design changes, RFIs, and change orders with a dashboard for regional leadership review, including priority and due date tracking.
- Requesting and reviewing MOPs (Method of Procedure) for detail, necessity, and risk.
- Onboarding new vendors for badging and orientation.
- Updating project management software with milestone dates, correspondence, and documents.
- Monitoring delivery of owner furnished material to site.
- Compiling and storing construction data from vendors.
- Managing checklists including substantial completion, safety, and quality.
Key job responsibilities include:
- Manage the owners side RFIs, submittals, and change management processes related to data center builds.
- Help ensure monthly billing and pay applications are correct.
- Help to manage and implement new processes as required.
A day in the life:
As a Project Engineer you will help manage the AWS change order process for all inflight activities and work daily with general contractors, superintendents, and project engineers to keep the project on schedule. You will provide daily onsite support to construction managers dealing with the many moving parts of a construction project.
About the team: DCCD Global Construction Management is responsible for the construction portion of Data Center Builds, working with key stakeholders from design kickoff through bidding, procurement, construction, startup, commissioning, and handoff to DC Operations. The goals are to reduce cost, shorten delivery duration, and minimize defects, aiming to bring projects in on budget, on schedule, and with Zero Defects at Power Facilities Hand-Off.
