About the role

Atwell is hiring a Project Surveyor to support oil & gas pipeline, drilling, facilities, and energy infrastructure projects. You’ll lead office and select field tasks, ensure deliverable quality, and serve as a technical liaison between clients, field crews, and design teams. Ideally the candidate would be in Lubbock, Texas. Other areas to include Houston, Dallas, San Antonio.

Day to day
  • Verify and process field survey data (measurements, calculations) and produce base surveys—surfaces/contours, utilities, site features, and boundaries.
  • Prepare CAD deliverables (ALTA/NSPS, boundary, topographic, site, construction staking plans) in Civil 3D with limited oversight.
  • Review field notes, perform QC on plats/drawings, and calculate stakeout (points, alignments, staking plots); prepare cut sheets.
  • Research and draft easements from title reports; review public records for boundary/easement and right-of-way determinations.
  • Coordinate with Project Managers and clients on scope, schedule, and priorities; support kickoff meetings and status updates.
  • Apply Atwell SOPs, state/local surveying standards, and client requirements; maintain organized project job books and documentation.
  • Mentor/guide project team members; assist with task assignment and review to meet budget, quality, and deadline targets.
Requirements
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s in Land Surveying/Geomatics (or equivalent experience).
  • Active survey license (PS/PLS/RLS) or ability to obtain per state requirements.
  • 5+ years’ progressive surveying experience under a licensed surveyor (8+ preferred).
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D and CAD drafting workflows for survey deliverables.
  • Experience with Trimble data collectors, GPS, robotic total stations, and Trimble Business Center (data processing/QA).
  • Strong working knowledge of construction layout, boundary retracement/legal principles, geodetic datums/coordinate systems/projections, and field-to-finish techniques.
  • Solid software skills:
    Microsoft Excel/Word, Bluebeam Revu;
ArcGIS and Google Earth a plus.
Oil & Gas/Energy experience we value
  • Pipeline routing and right-of-way surveys (OH/UG), valve sites, meter stations, and facility layout.
  • Construction staking and as-built surveys for pipelines, gathering systems, terminals, and compressor/pump stations.
  • Drill pad/well pad stakeout, centerlines, and grading/as-built verification for drilling programs.
  • Title/easement research for corridors; boundary control and monumentation across linear projects.
  • QA/QC of EPC design survey inputs; coordination with inspection, environmental, and drilling/construction teams.
Nice to have
  • Trimble Access, ArcGIS, and experience with data management (photo logs, checklists, structured field data).
  • Familiarity with CO₂/RNG/hydrogen or electric T&D survey in addition to oil & gas corridors.
  • Client-facing communication experience and change-management awareness (scope, schedule, budget).
