Commissioning Manager – Data Center Controls About the Company
Our client is a leading third-party automation controls contractor specializing in mission-critical data center environments. They partner with top-tier general contractors, hyperscale clients, and engineering firms to deliver high-performance building automation and controls systems across large-scale projects nationwide.
Position OverviewThe Commissioning Manager will lead and oversee all aspects of commissioning for complex data center automation and controls systems. This individual will be responsible for managing commissioning teams, coordinating with project stakeholders, and ensuring all systems are installed, tested, and operating in accordance with design intent and client expectations.
This is a leadership role requiring both strong technical expertise in controls systems and the ability to manage multiple projects in fast-paced, high-stakes environments.
Key Responsibilities- Lead end-to-end commissioning activities for data center controls and automation systems
- Manage and mentor commissioning engineers and field technicians
- Develop and execute commissioning plans, schedules, and procedures
- Coordinate with general contractors, engineers, and client stakeholders
- Oversee functional performance testing (FPT) and integrated systems testing (IST)
- Ensure compliance with project specifications, industry standards, and safety requirements
- Identify, track, and resolve system deficiencies and commissioning issues
- Review design documents, sequences of operation, and submittals for accuracy and completeness
- Provide detailed commissioning reports and documentation to clients
- Support project turnover, training, and closeout processes
- 3-5+ years of experience in commissioning, controls, or building automation systems
- Strong background in data center or other mission-critical environments (preferred)
- Proven experience managing teams and leading projects
- Deep understanding of HVAC systems, electrical systems, and controls integration
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical, electrical, and controls drawings
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Willingness to travel to project sites as needed
- Experience with hyperscale or colocation data center projects
- Commissioning certifications (CxA, CCP, etc.) are a plus
- Familiarity with industry standards such as ASHRAE, NFPA, and LEED
