Overview

Amazon is seeking a Controls Manager to lead the deployment and service of building management systems (BMS) and electrical power monitoring systems (EPMS) at Amazon data centers. The role focuses on team leadership, project management, and technical expertise in building controls and automation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage remote teams in Texas.
  • Travel required between 35‑50% across Texas to support construction and data center product delivery.
  • Develop, implement, and track team goals; report to stakeholders and leadership.
  • Conduct interviews and launch plans for new hires; identify team needs.
  • Install, program, and troubleshoot BMS/EPMS systems and/or industrial controls systems.
  • Document and interpret electrical diagrams, control diagrams, building operations, control circuits, and industrial HVAC.
  • Ascertain customer needs to help develop project scope and specifications.
  • Manage project engineering to determine scope of work relative to design intent.
  • Read and interpret specifications; implement them as applicable.
  • Develop drawings for control panels, power distribution, junction boxes, including general arrangement, internal layout, schematics, and wire diagrams.
  • Develop logic diagrams in International Automation format for PLCs and DCS.
  • Perform inspections, testing, and commissioning of facility systems.
  • Provide technical assistance to internal customers.
  • Coordinate project work internally and with other departments to ensure on‑time completion within budget.
Basic Qualifications
  • 4+ years of general contractor and vendor management experience (RFPs, bidding, change orders, quality control, RFI/submittal tracking) associated with construction and project execution.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent engineering science and 8+ years of relevant controls experience, or 12+ years of relevant controls experience in lieu of a degree.
  • 3+ years of experience directly managing, mentoring, leading, and coaching teams of controls professionals.
  • 3+ years of experience hiring, promoting, disciplining, and developing teams of controls professionals.
  • 4+ years of experience in controls management of large, complex projects involving large‑scale mechanical, electrical, and controls systems.
  • 3+ years of experience managing deployment of complex electrical and mechanical controls systems, including large‑scale power distribution or generation and cooling systems.
  • Experience working with cross‑functional teams to deliver complex construction projects.
Preferred Qualifications
  • MS in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or other science).
  • 6 years of experience directly managing, mentoring, leading, and coaching teams of controls professionals.
  • 8 years of experience in project management and vendor management.
  • 3 years of experience in data center system‑level architecture and electrical engineering principles.
  • 3 years of experience in data center system‑level architecture and mechanical engineering principles.
  • Experience designing data centers or critical MEP infrastructure.
  • Certified as a Professional Engineer (PE).
  • Prior AWS/Amazon experience.
  • 5+ years of military service.
Benefits and Compensation

The base salary range for this position is $‑$ USD annually (Austin, Dallas, Lubbock, TX).
