Senior Analyst-Budget
Position DescriptionAs the Senior Analyst for the Budget Office, you will not only assist in preparing and monitoring budgets, but also engage in analysis to identify trends and discrepancies in financial performance. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about numbers and eager to learn. The introductory budget role will play a crucial part in the budgeting process for Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center.
The position involves performing specialized analytical duties in the operation and maintenance of the assigned area and leveraging analytical skills to support the institution. Strong customer service skills will be essential when working with various departments, providing insightful data analysis and contributing to the development of budget that aligns with strategic goals.
- Utilize proactive clear and professional communication to provide changes and relevant information to supervisor.
- Performs analysis of daily work including ePAFs, LRs, EOPs, HR transactions and Budget Revisions for adherence to governing regulations, policies and procedures.
- Run and review Cognos consistency edits. Analyzing data for possible errors, if necessary, initiating and performing corrective action.
- Review Negative Balance reports and edits for adherence to governing regulations, policies and procedures.
- Testing of the Banner System and Budget related systems.
- Assist departmental users with budget and personnel questions.
- Understanding and utilization of systems and data to provide financial and analytical support including analyzing budgets for reasonableness and overspending.
- Produce and maintain complete well‑organized documentation.
- Assist in preparation of the Annual Operating Budget.
- Actively continue personal education and development.
- Train departmental users on Budget related systems.
- Ability to design and prepare financial management reports from budget and accounting records.
- Should possess extensive PC skills, including knowledge of Enterprise systems, Internet, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
- The individual should have strong organizational and time management skills and the ability to meet specific deadlines.
- Individual should also have excellent problem‑solving, analyzation and decision‑making skills along with excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with at least 6 hours of Accounting. Responsible work experience in an institution of higher education may substitute for a degree.
- Three years of experience in governmental or financial management work with experience in institutions of higher education highly desirable.
- Experience working with Budget and/or financial data and systems in a professional setting.
- Prior experience working in the creation and maintenance of budgets.
- Prior experience/utilization of Microsoft Excel.
- Knowledge of Banner, Cognos and other TTUS Systems.
- Bachelor's degree in related field.
- Three (3) years related experience; OR a combination of related education and/or experience to equal seven years.
