Public Health Coordinator
Job DescriptionThe purpose of this position is to coordinate the work of a public health program area. Program areas may include emergency response, disease surveillance, prevention, behavioral health or health education.
Essential FunctionsOversee assigned public health program area;
Supervise staff in program area;
Mentor program staff and provide guidance and direction to complete assignments;
Prepare written reports and oral presentations;
Stay informed on best practices in program area Develop educational materials related to assigned program area (fact sheets, brochures,, basic data, newsletters, etc.);
Prepare grants, develop funding proposals and budgets;
Perform job duties in a way that promotes a positive image of the City organization and delivers exemplary customer service skills;
Keep managers and department director apprised of activities in assigned program area;
Perform work during emergency, disaster or communicable disease incidents 24/7 as required;
Perform other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in a social science or related field with an additional 2 years' experience in public health. Master's degree in Public Health or related field preferred. Valid TX Driver's license
Knowledge and AbilitiesKnowledge of:
Public health generally accepted and commonly used principles, theories, methodology and precedents;
Resources in the field of public health and communicable diseases;
Fluent utilization of MS Office Suite with proficiency in Excel. Ability to:
Effective written and oral communication skills;
Skill in developing and implementing plans, practices and procedures;
Skill in organizing, prioritizing workload and meeting deadlines to accomplish a number of simultaneous tasks;
Proven ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with a variety of community partners;
Skill in planning, budgeting and organizing work activities to meet established objectives within deadlines;
Ability to work independently;
Ability to develop and conduct public presentations; ability to plan and conduct effective meetings. Physical Requirements Frequently lift up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift up to 25 pounds;
Frequently carry up to 10 pounds and occasionally carry up to 25 pounds;
Occasionally stand and walk;
Occasionally kneel;
Occasionally pull or push objects;
Occasionally rotate upper trunk to right or left while sitting or standing;
Occasionally reach above, at, or below shoulder height;
Frequently handle objects;
Coordinate eye, hand, and foot movement in order to operate a vehicle.
