Infection Control Nurse

Directs and coordinates the infection control program in the School of Medicine clinics. The employee may occasionally be exposed to fumes or airborne particles. Noise level is usually moderate.

• Monitors APIC, OSHA, & Ector County Public Health Epidemiology websites for updates on employee health and infection control practices; communicates education to Senior Director and managers as needed.
• Performs, coordinates and facilitates systems audits for campus administration, including clinical, operational, and academic functions with policy/procedure review and/or development to address deficiencies and improve quality and efficiency for delivery of services/processes.
• Supports and reviews Infectious Disease Exposure Policy in conjunction with the Section Manager and Director and the Infection Control Committee Chairman.
• Daily tracking of HAI’s, reportable conditions, exposures, communicable diseases, and LARC compliance.
• Provides Infection Prevention education and develops infection prevention competencies.
• Compiles Infection Prevention and Occupational Health compliance reports; maintains accurate data for internal and public reporting.
• Assists clinical staff and providers in all departments in developing and implementing performance improvement initiatives for infection prevention; communicates professionally and effectively any performance initiatives to the Section Manager.
• Prepares agenda items and presentation for Performance Improvement / Risk Management and Infection Control Committee meetings.
• Functions in the capacity of the Employee Health Nurse role; coordinates vaccines, immunizations, lab titers, and Blood Borne Pathogen Exposures Protocol per TTUHSC policy.
• Manages annual Tuberculin skin test requirements for faculty, staff, residents and students; places and interprets TST.
• Evaluates new hire health information for completeness; advises on necessary follow-up; maintains system for notification of vaccination, etc.
• Manages TTUHSC immunization program; provides immunizations as required.

• At least two years experience in infection control, employee health and blood borne pathogen exposures in a clinical or hospital setting.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish).

Graduated from an approved accredited nursing program. Current RN license in the State of Texas or the ability to transfer your license to Texas. At least one year of infection control experience and/or training.

Travel:
Up to 25%
Pay Grade: 5200.00 – 6066.66 (Monthly)
