Description

Star Care Specialty Health System (Star Care) is seeking a full-time Psychiatric Provider to join its outstanding Forensic team. The Forensic Psychiatric Provider is a key member of the forensic team at the Lubbock County Detention Center. This position provides comprehensive psychiatric care within a correctional setting, including conducting mental health assessments and status examinations, managing routine clinics and follow-up appointments, developing diagnostic impressions, providing patient education and medication counseling, and delivering program-specific consultations.

Additional responsibilities include reviewing medical records for accuracy, supporting the planning and coordination of patient care, and collaborating effectively with direct care providers, nursing staff, program personnel, and correctional officers. This role requires strong clinical judgment, professional communication, and the ability to maintain accurate records while ensuring all documentation is completed thoroughly and in a timely manner in accordance with forensic and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide comprehensive psychiatric care within a correctional/forensic setting, including conducting mental health assessments, mental status examinations, diagnosis, treatment planning, medication management, and follow-up care.
  • Conduct regularly scheduled clinics and patient follow-up appointments to monitor treatment progress, evaluate outcomes, and adjust treatment plans as appropriate.
  • Provide patient education and medication counseling to promote understanding of diagnoses, treatment options, prescribed medications, and self-management strategies.
  • Review, maintain, and document accurate and complete medical and mental health records in accordance with applicable standards, policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Observe, assess, document, and evaluate patient symptoms, behaviors, treatment responses, and overall clinical progress.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, mental health professionals, program staff, correctional officers, and other healthcare providers to coordinate and enhance patient care.
  • Assess and interpret patients’ emotional, behavioral, social, and psychological needs and develop appropriate treatment recommendations and interventions.
  • Assemble, evaluate, and interpret clinical and psychosocial data to support sound clinical decision-making and continuity of care.
  • Communicate medical and mental health information effectively, both verbally and in writing, to patients, families, healthcare professionals, and other authorized stakeholders.
  • Exercise independent clinical judgment in making administrative, procedural, and patient-care decisions consistent with professional standards and facility policies.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with interdisciplinary team members, community resources, and other involved agencies and providers.
  • Utilize electronic health records, database systems, Microsoft Office applications, and other computer-based tools to document, retrieve, analyze, and communicate information.
  • Organize and prioritize multiple assignments while managing time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ensure timely completion of all required documentation, reports, treatment plans, consultations, and clinical records.
  • Maintain compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, organizational policies, and standards governing the treatment of individuals with mental illness.
  • Attain and maintain all required credentials, privileges, and security clearance through the Lubbock County Detention Center.
  • Maintain regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work hours.
  • Ensure all required training and credentials are current and compliant with Center, federal, state, and local regulations, in addition to Star Care policies and procedures.
