Who you are:

  • Has compassion for senior citizens
  • Able to work with moderate to heavy physical effort 95% of the workday
  • Able to stand and walk long distances up to 8 hours per day
  • Able to stoop and work from a kneeling position, perform repetitive bending, reaching, and stretching
  • Able to lift and carry up to 30 lbs. independently
  • Able to operate a vacuum, work in confined spaces around furniture and breakable objects, and have constant contact with residents
  • Able to handle unpleasant odors, high heat levels, and institutional cleaning chemicals
  • Has effective communication skills, both oral and written
  • Able to handle a multiplicity of routine tasks, following specific instructions carefully and general instructions completely
  • Holds a high school diploma or GED or is in the process of obtaining diploma or GED

Summary:

The Caregiver is responsible for following the Companion Plan of Services to enhance the quality of life for clients who can benefit from companionship, emotional support, and assistance with appropriate instrumental Activities of Daily Living.

Job Expectations:

  • Assist all residents/clients with a high quality of personal care, including but not limited to; bathing, dressing, grooming, shaving, incontinent care, foot care, vital signs, height and weight checks per policy
  • Providing companionship and emotional support
  • If requested by the client or responsible party, verbally reminding client to take routine medications
  • Accompanying clients to doctor appointments, recreational outings or shopping
  • Communication skills including giving report to on-coming Caregiver
  • Observation, reporting and documentation of client status and the services provided
  • Basic infection control procedures
  • Helping maintain a clean and safe environment
  • Physical, emotional and developmental characteristics of the population served, including the need for respect for the client, his privacy and property
  • Food preparation and household chores
  • Assist residents with mealtime - cuts food, encourages to eat
  • Complete and document shift assignments as assigned, if unable to complete, report to Caregiver Manager
  • Communicate to residents, families, Department Heads and the Director of Resident Services / Health & Wellness Navigator when needed
  • Provide activities as planned and/or directed.
  • Quick response to calls and emergencies
  • Attendance and participation in staff meetings
  • Complete, accurate and timely documentation
  • Other tasks as assigned by manager /director
