Description

The Transport Aide will be responsible for transporting residents to various appointments, scheduled outings, and other special events in the greater Houston metro area as required. When not driving residents, this role will act as a Therapeutic Assistant and provide 24-hour supervision and documentation of the residents' activities. Among these duties are observing and documenting resident behavior, acting as a role model for residents, interacting with residents, providing the resident assistance with activities of daily living, ensuring resident safety, reinforcing treatment plans and TLC policies, assisting therapy and nursing staff when needed, and maintaining various checklists, contracts, and daily log sheets.

The Transport Aide will uphold the mission, philosophy, and goals of the organization while maintaining strict confidentiality of personnel and resident data and information in the performance of assigned duties. Performs other duties as required.

Essential Functions

  • With oversight by the Residential Manager, responsible for ensuring transport needs for Moody residents are met.
  • Provide transportation, observation, and documentation of responses when off campus. This includes picking patients up for admission and discharge and transporting patients to and from appointments and to the hospital as needed.
  • Safely securing the resident in the vehicle per facility training.
  • Providing all care as needed to the resident while out of the building.
  • Ensuring all paperwork is completed prior to the appointment and handing off any information received while off campus from consulting physicians, etc.
  • Perform routine inspections of Moody vehicles and report any maintenance needed in a timely manner.
  • Attend work on scheduled shifts for scheduled appointments.
  • Arrive at appointments early when possible and always on time.
  • Perform duties of the Therapeutic Assistant, providing resident care when not driving or supervising appointments.
  • Carry out therapeutic activities as designed by the clinical staff and/or the Case Manager.
  • Implement patient behavior management programs including the Levels system.
  • Assist in emergency situations including the implementation of fire alarm and fire drill procedures and the provision of first aid treatment in case of illness or injury.
  • Always serve as a role model maintaining professional dress and conduct.
  • Implement emergency evacuation procedures, i.e. fire drills, etc.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and records including seizure reports, ADL check sheets, critical incident reports, etc.
  • Provide a safe and secure environment for patients.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Attend in-services and staff meetings.
  • Discharge duties in accordance with Moody Neuro organizational policy, CARF and other accrediting bodies.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • The ability to work well with other people.

  • Ability to receive and follow instructions accurately.
  • Knowledge of philosophical and ethical considerations in rehabilitation practice.
  • Hold current CPR and first aid certifications.
  • Ability to communicate accurate and pertinent information through documentation.
  • Ability to execute emergency procedures.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts.
  • Ability to assist patients with transfer in a wheelchair.
  • Certified in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NCI)
  • Current/valid Driver's license.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, ability to follow instructions, emergency response capability.
  • Current/valid Driver's license.

Lifting Requirements - individuals in clinical care positions may be required to assist with transfers up to 150 pounds and should have the ability to lift to 100 pounds without assistance.

Education:

High-School Diploma or equivalent preferred

Experience:

Two years in Residential Behavioral Rehabilitation or one to two years with disabled populations.
