Purpose:
The Director of Instructional Technology provides leadership for the planning, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of instructional technology and digital learning initiatives across the district. This position oversees the life cycle management of hardware, software, and instructional systems, ensures alignment with instructional goals, and provides leadership for technology support staff as well as leading the effort to integrate technology into teaching and learning, ensuring that digital resources, instructional systems, and professional learning opportunities enhance student achievement and support district instructional goals.
The Director collaborates with district and campus leadership to develop and implement innovative technology solutions that improve teaching, learning, communication, and operational effectiveness. The Director serves as a liaison among Technology Services, Teaching and Learning, campus leadership, and district departments to ensure technology resources are effectively aligned with instructional priorities and organizational goals.
The Director will also be responsible for supervising the Coordinator of Campus Technology Support.
Qualifications and Skills:
Education/Certification:
Master's degree in Computer Science, Education or related field, equivalent certification, or equivalent experience in providing technical support
5 years K-12 experience preferred
5 years of supervisory experience preferred
Strong technical skills, including proficiency with hardware and software related to educational technology
Knowledge of teaching, coaching, and instructional leadership
Reliable transportation with current liability insurance
Flexibility and strong work ethic
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Major Responsibilities, Skills, and Expertise:
Strategic Planning and Implementation:
* Develop and maintain a comprehensive long-term strategy for campus technology, including life cycles for student and staff devices (e.g., Chromebooks, desktops, large displays, iPads, and audio equipment).
* Determine device rotation schedules by grade level (PreK-12) and ensure device capabilities align with instructional needs.
* Evaluate and implement technology features and pilot devices to forecast future specifications and needs.
* Ensure financial feasibility for technology replacement cycles while considering warranty requirements and breakage trends.
* Plan district wide, multi-year initiatives related to technology
* Develop digital learning training initiatives
Instructional and Administrative Support:
* Promote student learning and achievement by integrating technology into instruction and administrative applications.
* Coordinate district-wide initiatives related to instructional technology, ensuring alignment with broader classroom technology plans.
* Provide guidance on the deployment of new technologies, including hardware, software, and instructional systems.
* Demonstrate knowledge of technology as it relates to computers, peripherals, and instruction.
Technology Policy and Budget Management:
* Formulate and implement district-wide technology policies and procedures, incorporating input from stakeholders.
* Manage and track the budget for campus technology projects, ensuring adherence to district priorities and funding sources.
* Collaborate with vendors to deploy and integrate technology initiatives effectively.
Monitoring and Evaluation:
* Continuously monitor and assess the performance of campus technology systems, gathering data to inform decisions.
* Compile, maintain, and report on records related to technology initiatives, usage, and breakage patterns.
Professional Development and Research:
* Stay updated on trends in educational technology through research, conferences, and networking with other districts.
* Actively participate in revising Technology TEKS and understanding state and federal requirements for technology use.
Other Duties:
* Communicate effectively with stakeholders, including presenting information and ensuring compliance with regulations.
* Manage the E-Rate program for the district, ensuring compliance with all regulations and requirements.
* Manage the administrative paperwork for the Campus Technology Support Team and Digital Learning Team
