Overview

Supervises, assigns, and coordinates the activities of irrigation workers engaged in the operation and maintenance of center pivot irrigation systems and pump stations of the Land Application site for disposal of treated effluent according to provisions of the TCEQ permit.

Responsibilities
  • Assist Site Supervisor in plans and supervise activities of farm and livestock operations to dispose of treated effluent through center pivot irrigation systems and pump station on the City Land Application disposal sites;
  • Coordinate activities with Site Supervisor. Assist with performance standards, work priorities, and schedules;
  • Train employees in the operations and maintenance of center pivots and pump stations;
  • Ensure safety regulations are followed. Ensure that safety information is available for employees;
  • Examine irrigation equipment for repair and rehabilitation of system;
  • Assist in preparation and administer the operating budget for the cost center;
  • Maintain cooperative working relationships with all regulatory agencies. Control public access to the sites;
  • Schedule and assist with equipment maintenance to ensure continuing operation with minimum lost time
  • Assist in purchasng needed equipment and supplies;
  • Prepare equipment specifications;
  • Perform related duties as directed.
Qualifications

Completion of a high school diploma or the equivalent with an additional three to five years of experience in irrigation practices with center pivot systems and large irrigation pump station. Additionally, candidates are required to have at least two years of supervisory experience in farming, irrigation, and/or harvesting operations; or any combination of relevant education and experience which provides the following:

Preferred:

  • Working understanding of TCEQ Wastewater Permit terminology and compliance requirements
  • Successful supervision of large irrigation pump station operation and pivot maintenance

Valid Current Driver's License

Physical Exam Required

Critical Infrastructure: This position has been determined to have close contact with, or control of Critical Infrastructure components. This position is subject to extensive background checks and random drug screening.

Knowledge of:

  • The maintenance and proper efficiency of irrigation systems

Ability to:

  • Diagnose a variety of malfunctions in pivot systems;
  • Communicate effectively with others;
  • Supervise the work of others;
  • Maintain accurate records.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds;
  • Occasionally lift and carry up to 100 pounds;
  • Frequently walk and stand during shift;
  • Occasionally climb ladders, stairs, and inclined surfaces;
  • Occasionally crawl when greasing equipment;
  • Frequently reach at, above, or below shoulder level;
  • Coordinate eye, hand, and foot movement;
  • Frequently rotate upper trunk forward at the waist and partially flex at the knees;
  • Frequently rotate upper trunk to the right or left while sitting or standing.
