Do you enjoy taking an idea and turning it into something? The Construction Safety Manager role is for an experienced Health and Safety (H&S) Specialist, H&S Engineer, or H&S Manager who will support AWS Data Center Planning and Delivery (DCPD) programs. Internally, you will partner with DCPD teams such as Real Estate, Due Diligence, Permitting, Energy, Water, Pre-Construction, Construction, Commissioning, Security and Procurement Teams to achieve health and safety goals and improve our safety culture.
Externally, you will engage with General Contractors and AWS Suppliers to confirm/clarify business expectations for H&S and look for ways to continually improve H&S of contracted services. You will work under the direction of the Regional Construction Safety Manager.
- Work on a field-based role reporting to field construction projects around Lubbock, TX five days per week with occasional travel to other domestic locations.
- Influence program development, framework, and strategy, and deploy programs covering H&S elements of leadership, planning, support, operational controls, continuous improvement, and performance management to ensure compliance with jurisdictional requirements and AWS Safety Management Program (SMP).
- Review due diligence risk assessments with real estate, preconstruction, and construction operations on H&S aspects of the AWS H&S management program to ensure adequate implementation.
- Coordinate with DCPD managers to prioritize H&S in planning and execution across all project phases.
- Ensure and monitor General Contractors and AWS deployment vendors’ compliance with onboarding requirements in Avetta.
- Conduct campus H&S kickoff sessions and review General Contractor and AWS deployment vendor Construction Safety Management Plans.
- Document data and anecdotes in standard reporting tools (Weekly Business Reviews, Monthly Project Reviews) for DCPD and H&S leadership teams.
- Manage 3rd party/internal H&S resources on DCPD projects (weekly/ monthly reviews).
- Identify improvement opportunities and partner with the Data Center Health and Safety (DCHS) Operational Team on regional issues impacting construction/operations handover phases.
- Audit projects to verify processes are followed and analyze data (leading and lagging indicators) for trends, risks/opportunities, and report at project/regional levels and within governance programs.
- Conduct regular site visits with H&S 3rd party resources, construction managers, and Data Center Health and Safety Operational teams.
- Host project and regional contractor and internal team H&S kickoff sessions and annual performance review sessions.
- Basic Qualifications
- 6+ years of compliance, audit, or risk management experience
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent
- 5+ years of health and safety experience in construction or industrial environments, including demonstrated knowledge of safety management systems, regulatory compliance, and contractor safety management
- Preferred Qualifications
- Experience leveraging technology and implementing lean principles / Six Sigma methodologies to drive process improvements or equivalent
- ASP, CSP, or CHST preferred
