REPORTS TO: Chief Program Officer, Director of Advocacy, Director of Initiatives, or Advocacy Program Manager (to be assigned by Chief Program Officer)

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY: The Advocacy Coordinator coordinates high‑quality best‑interest advocacy for assigned children in foster care through the supervision of up to 25 Volunteer Advocates. The Coordinator coaches each Volunteer Advocate to ensure adherence to policies, core duties, and the Volunteer Advocate Job Description.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES- Volunteer Advocate Supervision and Coaching
- Coach, guide, and support Volunteer Advocates in carrying out the Guardian ad Litem (GAL) role as mandated in the Texas Family Code
- Temporarily fill in the GAL role when a Volunteer Advocate is unavailable
- Provide ongoing training, coaching, supervision, support, resources, and assistance to Volunteer Advocates
- Coordinate and oversee casework and advocacy responsibilities, including:
- Family and child contacts
- Professional contacts
- Support services
- Linkage to community resources
- Assistance with court report preparation and timely submission
- Appearance at court hearings
- Appearance at other case‑related meetings
- Maintenance of case records
- Attend and assist in Volunteer Advocate training as requested
- Ensure timely submission of Volunteer Advocates’ documentation in Optima and review each entry for necessary detail
- Provide timely, honest, and productive feedback in evaluating the Volunteer Advocate’s work
- Best‑Interest Advocacy:
Provide professional consultation and support to Volunteer Advocates to promote appropriate intervention and facilitate recommendations about best interest and the child’s placement - Maintain knowledge of child placement options and relevant DFPS and SFM policies and procedures
- Accompany Volunteer Advocates to all case‑related meetings and court hearings; provide support while they advocate for children
- When a Volunteer Advocate is unable to attend, attend on their behalf and represent the GAL role
- Accompany new Volunteer Advocates on initial visits and accompany upon request
- Provide any correspondence, pleadings, or reports received in the case to the Volunteer Advocate
- Deliver timely, accurate reports for submission to court and other parties
- Notify Volunteer Advocates of meetings and court hearings
- Maintain up‑to‑date case files, contact logs, and relevant documents (placement, medical, psychological, school, legal)
- Ensure all case and Volunteer Advocate data in Optima is current and accurate for funding and reporting
- Follow procedures and adhere to timelines outlined in the CASA Advocacy Coordinator Handbook
- Promote and maintain collaborative relationships with other professionals
- Attend and support special events
- Perform additional duties as required
- Maintain a valid driver’s license and auto insurance
- Travel between work locations and across the organization’s service area as needed
Education: Minimum of a bachelor’s degree is required. Experience may substitute for education.
Minimum required experience:
- Prior experience providing case management or advocacy services with children
- Prior volunteer experience
- Approved criminal and DFPS background check
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience supervising or coordinating volunteers
- Proven leadership ability
- Excellent attention to detail
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred
- Persistent and diplomatic in encouraging volunteer motivation and case advocacy
- Ability to coach and empower diverse individuals
