Position Context and BenefitsBrief job description:

The state supported living centers serve people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are medically fragile or who have behavioral problems. Centers provide campus-based direct services and supports at 13 centers located throughout the state.
Free CEUs and updated resources through Lippincott access for all nurses. This position may be eligible to earn additional pay for evenings, nights and/or weekends.
Responsibilities (Essential Job Functions)The RN Shift Supervisor is responsible for coordinating and overseeing nursing activities and ensuring appropriate nursing staff coverage during the assigned shift. Serves as the point-of-contact for interdisciplinary staff for coordination of nursing services for the assigned areas or the SSLC as a whole. Responds to emergency situations, provides assessments and safety for individuals and staff, and provides treatment to HHS employees injured in the course of employment.
Performs complex nursing work, including comprehensive physical assessments and health interventions. Evaluates and documents healthcare needs and reports to appropriate persons. Provides oversight and coaching of nursing staff, delegates work, and assists with on-the-job instruction and staff development. Maintains professional relationships with facility and outside agency staff and follows all agency and facility policies.
Notifies leadership of trends and concerns to ensure consistent, high-quality care. Maintains competency in medical equipment and adheres to facility/state regulations. Collaborates with direct care staff, physicians, PCPs, administration, and other nursing staff to ensure optimal care as part of the interdisciplinary team. May participate in on-call rotations and handle shifts across home/group settings within the SSLC.
Performs technical nursing procedures (e.g., wound care, tracheostomy care, gastrostomy/jejunostomy care, breathing treatments) after demonstrated competency. Administers medications and immunizations, observes patients for reactions, and communicates health status to other disciplines and families as needed. Provides staff training and serves as a resource for nursing protocols and professional development. Responds to emergencies with CPR, suctioning, and other procedures. Assists in disaster response or COOP activities as needed.
Cross-trains nurses to back up as RN Shift Supervisor and provides back-up coverage for nursing activities as needed.
Other duties may include preparing for essential meetings related to care, updating automated systems and tracking documents, and coordinating with other disciplines for optimal health outcomes.

- Knowledge of nursing techniques, standards, procedures; health care laws and regulations; medical diagnoses and procedures; community health principles; program regulations; and utilization review and control.
- Knowledge of state and federal laws and ICF-IID rules related to State Supported Living Center or the ability to gain quickly.
- Knowledge of nursing care standards, the Settlement Agreement, and Healthcare Guidelines or the ability to gain quickly.
- Knowledge of infectious diseases and infection prevention; infection control standards and utilization management.
- Skills in the use of computer/software and electronic health record systems.
