Job Description
- Assess patient status upon arrival to the PACU, including respiratory status, oxygen saturation, vital signs, dressings, output from Foley and drains, and heart rhythms.
- Recognize and respond immediately to life‑threatening situations according to PACU protocol.
- Identify significant changes in patient condition, report to anesthesia, head nurse, charge nurse or surgeon, and document all appropriate actions.
- Implement the plan of care to assist the patient in returning to the outpatient area or surgical floor unit.
- Administer medications competently in accordance with hospital and departmental policies.
- Observe, document, and report patients’ responses to medications and nursing care in the EMR.
- Communicate accurate and thorough patient information upon relinquishing care to other healthcare workers.
- Participate as an effective member of the patient care team to facilitate the efficient operation of the PACU.
- Delegate responsibilities to others based on their roles, knowledge, and capabilities.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and well‑stocked nursing unit free of safety hazards by the end of the shift.
- Monitor the Electronic Medical Record for new physician orders and diagnostic results.
- Perform all duties relating to real‑time scanning accurately and efficiently.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Associate’s of Nursing Required
- Bachelor’s of Nursing Preferred
- 1+ years experience in ICU or recovery Preferred
- 1+ years RN experience with surgical patients Required
- Registered Nurse (RN)
