Wound Ostomy RN

Overview

The hospital-based Wound Ostomy Nurse serves as a clinical resource and consultant for patients with selected disorders of the gastrointestinal, genitourinary, and integumentary systems such as acute and chronic wounds (complex draining wounds, fistulae, pressure ulcers, vascular ulcers), ostomies, percutaneous tubes, and moisture-related skin injuries. Professional responsibilities are carried out through direct patient care, clinical consultation, education, research, and administration. The Wound Ostomy Nurse provides inpatient clinical services throughout the hospital, including the Emergency Department and Wound/Ostomy Care Clinic.

• Use excellent clinical knowledge to enhance or maintain quality of care within the limitations of the changing healthcare environment.
• Ensure competence of nursing staff to accept and carry out delegation of care.
• Meet the daily needs of all patients and interdisciplinary caregivers needing a variety of WOC services/consults in a timely manner with frequently high patient volumes.

Consequently, the employee must be competent in the interpretation of a patient's self-report or behavior, and this information must be interpreted with an understanding of the cognitive, physical, emotional, psychosocial, and chronological maturation process. The treatment of patients should be individualized and should reflect an understanding of the developmental needs and range of treatment needs for each patient.

  Texas Registered Nurse License
• Upon hire:
  National Provider BLS - American Heart Association
• 2 years Acute care experience

• Bachelor's Degree Nursing from an accredited school. Or equivalent education/experience
• Upon hire:
  Certification from Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing Certification Board (WOCNCB)

Posted are the minimum and the maximum wage rates on the wage range for this position. The successful candidate's placement on the wage range for this position will be determined based upon relevant job experience and other applicable factors. These amounts are the base pay range; additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, standby/on-call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities.
