Position: Certified Nurse Assistant/Nurse Assistant-3East (PRN 7a-7p)

PRN Days Lubbock, Texas

Unit Description 3 East is a 35-bed Medical Surgical floor with an emphasis on the adult surgical patient. Six patient rooms are dedicated bariatric rooms for our accredited bariatric program! Patients are primarily received from the Emergency Center, Trauma & Surgical Intensive Care Unit, Burn Intensive Care Unit, and Post Anesthesia Care Unit. Nurses provide pre-operative and post-operative nursing care for general surgery, urology, trauma, burn, and bariatric services.

3 East delivers multidisciplinary care on a dynamic, exciting, and fast-paced floor with a team dedicated to providing care for patients as if they were their own family member.

Qualifications

CNAs have completed Nurse Aide course and present Nurse Aide certification or have documented one-year experience as a Nurse Aide or have military training equivalent to a Nurse Aide. PCA or PCT certification also acceptable
• Must maintain a current BLS certification from American Heart Association OR for Nurse Assistant A nursing student who has completed approximately one quarter of their licensed vocational nursing curriculum and clinical experience as evidence by submission of transcripts and completed Nurse Aide Skill Validation Form.

JOB SUMMARY

The Nursing Assistant will perform tasks which involve specified services for patients delegated by a Licensed Nurse. Has a working knowledge of organizational and nursing policies.

    • Quality Patient Care
      - Provide quality patient care adhering to safety practices and proper clinical documentation. Quickly adjusts to quality initiatives and change. Contributes to the success of the nursing unit with specific strategic plans.
    • Reporting and Documentation
    • Hospital Wide Quality Metrics
      • Inpatient Satisfaction “Likelihood to Recommend" (Non-nursing department use house wide score; Nursing units use department specific score)
      • NRC:
        Ambulatory Surgery - Departments use specific results (OPS, GI, Cath, and IR)
      • NRC:
        Individual Department results
    • Quality Measurement:
      Did staff wash their hands?
    • Stewardship
      - Cost Center actual expenses in comparison to flex budget
  • II. Professional Growth & Development
    • Staff Meeting Attendance

  • III. Patient Safety and Quality Outcomes (NDNQI quality data - Units that do not monitor specific indicators will use the hospital wide scoring for the year) - Performance/Evaluation Criteria:

    • Hospital Acquired Pressure Ulcer

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

One year of previous/recent Nurse Aide experience preferred or has military training and experience equivalent to a nurse aide.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

The Certified Nurse Aide Technical Procedure Privileging Form details procedures the employee is expected to perform and must be completed by the end of the 3-month probationary period. Age specific knowledge is required when needed for appropriate patient care.

INTERACTION WITH OTHER DEPARTMENTS AND OTHER RELATIONSHIPS

This position requires close interaction with other ancillary departments to facilitate a quality multi-disciplinary approach to patient care.

PHYSICAL CAPABILITIES

Work is of medium demand. Standing, walking most of the time on duty. Lifting and pushing patients, carts, and wheelchairs. Good tactile sensation is necessary for checking patients. Talking and hearing to converse with patients and staff members. Near visual acuity for accurate reading of gauges and thermometers and for recording on patients' charts.

ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS

Works inside. Hours of duty may be irregular covering various shifts. Exposure of blood-borne pathogens is of high risk.
