BriefJob Description
Position available for Morning, Evening, and Night shifts across multiple homes. May earn additional pay for evenings, nights, and/or weekends. State Supported Living Centers serve people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are medically fragile or have behavioral problems.
Centers provide campus-based direct services and supports at 13 locations statewide. Free CEUs and updated resources through Lippincott access for all nurses.
Attends work regularly, may work specific shift schedule or rotating schedule, extended shift, and/or overtime as per agency leave policy. May serve in on‑call status on a rotating schedule. Performs routine nursing tasks and procedures per HHSC, SSLC and state regulations, including tracheostomy care, gastrostomy/jejunostomy care, wound care, breathing treatments, specimen collection, laboratory screening tests, medication administration, immunizations, and treatments. Makes rounds and/or home visits as needed and works in other SSLC locations as needed.
Monitors individuals’ weight, diet, feedings, vital signs, and illness signs. Initiates acute care plans as needed. Assists in evaluating nursing intervention outcomes and gives recommendations. Instructs direct support professionals on monitoring procedures. Documents and reports treatments and observations accurately in electronic or paper chart. Prepares required reports. Assists LVNs and Certified Medication Aides, including recommendations for improvement and acclimating them to individuals’ needs.
Assists LVNs with implementing protocols and programs to improve health and safety. Supports Nurse Manager’s duties including controlled drug counts, medication counts, emergency logs, refrigerator temperature logs, and glucose controls. Assists Infection Control nurse in disease prevention measures and Quality Assurance Nurse in therapeutic programs. Participates in facility Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement initiatives. Responds to emergency situations, follows safety and infection control procedures, provides educational and safety training when requested.
Provides treatment to HHS employees injured in scope of employment. Performs additional duties as assigned, including supporting disaster response or continuity of operations (COOP) activation, potentially requiring alternate shift pattern or location.
Skills And Abilities
(KSAs)
Knowledge of nursing techniques and procedures, health care laws and regulations, medical diagnoses and procedures, accepted medical treatment programs, community health principles, and nursing care policies. Knowledge of state and federal laws and ICF‑IID rules related to SSLC and ability to quickly gain that knowledge. Knowledge of nursing care standards, Settlement Agreement, and Healthcare Guidelines or ability to quickly gain that knowledge.
Skill in the care and treatment of patients. Skills in computer/software use and electronic health record systems. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to present ideas clearly and concisely.
