Description:

Registered professional nurse responsible for supervision of ambulatory oncology clinic/infusion nursing unit/s daily operations and administrative duties through competent and responsible management, cost efficient and effective utilization of unit/s resources. Plans, coordinates, and evaluates all activities impacting patient care delivery (inpatient, ambulatory, and with outside healthcare facilities as appropriate for patient care). Ensures Inpatient-Outpatient-ER transition and continuity of care on an on-going basis for oncology patients.

Holds self and staff accountable for identification, evaluation, documentation, and appropriate intervention of oncology patients' needs to ensure high-quality cost-effective care. Collaborate with the UMC Health System Cancer Center Director of Operations and Leadership team to build and achieve high nurse retention, engagement, goals, and strengthen upon a motivated team to increase efficiency and productivity, evaluate, and identify opportunities for program expansion within the ambulatory pediatric oncology clinics and infusion/s.

Collaborative with physicians, management, and other clinical leaders and staff to promote efficient, high quality nursing care delivery that is consistent with UMC Health System best practice principles, assuring patient satisfaction, regulatory compliance, and provider efficiency. Relates effectively with other departments for optimal continuity of care. Assists in recruitment, interviewing, selection, hiring, training, orienting, mentoring, evaluation, coaching, counseling, disciplining, and rewards of staff within unit/s.

Assists to develop and evaluate staffing plans to assure sufficient and appropriate resources, identifies alternative staffing, resources, and demands, provides direct patient care and other nursing related activities/services when needed to support ongoing care. Completes accurate record of employee time keeping and requests for time off, personal leave. Uses flexible interpersonal style to help build a cohesive team, manages, and develops effective self-lead staff: providing effective communication, leadership, guidance, and resources.

Manages Conflict as needed. Assist with workplace safety initiatives, DNV Readiness, Magnet, Evidenced based NDNQI practice scoring, Accreditation, 90-day and annual competencies and evaluations, staff education. Supports lifelong learning of nurses and other healthcare personnel in an environment that facilitates continuous learning and facilitates the adult learning process while functioning within the framework of achieving the strategic goals of UMC Health System and nursing services.

Patient Relations:
Meet patient and family needs: take responsibility for patient safety, satisfaction, and clinical outcomes, resolve difficult patient situations regain patient confidence and trust as needed. Establish long-term relationship with pediatric patients and families to assist in navigating disease and treatment. All other assigned duties as needed.

Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing

Valid Texas RN License/Eligible Compact License

Must maintain a current BLS certification from American Heart Association

3 years of professional nursing experience; +2 years of experience in assigned clinical area

Previous leadership experience preferred.
