Post Doctoral Research Associate – Environmental Soil Chemistry

Texas Tech University – Lubbock, TX

Employment Type: Full‑Time

Salary Range: $48,000 – $78,400 per year

Position Description

Plays a lead role in planning, conducting, and supervising original research projects related to environmental soil chemistry, interpreting results, and publishing findings. Works under the supervision of graduate faculty and may supervise research and student assistants.

Major / Essential Functions
  • Conduct independent research and write peer‑reviewed scientific publications.
  • Write grant proposals and manage research funding.
  • Attend scientific conferences and present research outcomes.
  • Organize research samples and data collection.
  • Collaborate with students, postdocs, and visiting scholars.
  • Maintain and manage research equipment.
Required Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in the project specialization area.
  • Knowledge of modern research practices, methods, resources, and standards.
  • Strong organizational and independent judgment skills.
  • Ability to manage staff workload and provide training and supervision.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license with at least two years driving experience and eligibility to drive TTU vehicles.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in soil chemistry, geochemistry, environmental chemistry/engineering, or related area.
  • Experience with X‑ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS), including EXAFS.
  • Familiarity with FT‑ICR‑MS data processing.
  • Work with Scanning Emission Microscopy or Transmission Microscopy.
  • Strong background in soil or sediment geochemistry and wet‑chemical techniques.
  • Experience with analytical laboratory sample preparation and instrumentation (e.g., ICP‑OES/MS, XRF, GC, IC).
  • Proficiency in equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to work in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Prepared to work outdoors in inclement weather.
Pay Range

$48,000 – $78,400 per year.
