Deputy City Marshal I is an available position with the City of Fort Worth Municipal Court Marshal’s Division. The Deputy City Marshal I is a law enforcement officer commissioned by Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE). Primary responsibilities include presenting wanted parties before the court, providing bailiffs, and patrolling Lake Worth. The Marshals Division consists of four sections:
- Building Security – Responsible for maintaining the physical security of Fort Worth City Hall, the Public Safety Building, and other facilities and parking areas. Deputy Marshals assigned to this section also work as bailiffs, maintaining the decorum of the Court and ensuring safety of staff members and the public.
- Warrant Section – Brings wanted parties before the Court. Deputies work with the Fort Worth Police Department to arrest wanted parties, enforce traffic laws, and respond to radio calls as needed.
- Lake Patrol – Enforces maritime laws at Lake Worth and assists the Fort Worth Police Department by responding to service calls. Primary duties include ensuring a safe environment for the public on the lake, search and rescue on the lake and surrounding waterways, and emergency response.
- Bike Patrol – Patrols the downtown city campus, including City Hall, the Public Safety Building, and associated areas. Works with the Fort Worth Police Department to maintain peace in downtown Fort Worth.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid driver’s license
- Valid Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Peace Officer’s License at hire
- Pass physical, swim, and rowing test (2,000‑meter row within 11 minutes; two attempts permitted)
- Handcuffing confidence (pass/fail)
- Vertical lift of 30 lbs (pass/fail)
- Vertical lift of 50 lbs (pass/fail)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Intermediate Texas Peace Officer’s license or higher
- Completed minimum TCOLE training hours for the training cycle and continued education
- Marine Safety Enforcement Officer certification
- Firearms proficiency in pistol, shotgun, rifle platforms
Deputy City Marshal I
Job Responsibilities:
- Operate security screening checkpoints; search and inspect persons and their property entering secure facilities for prohibited weapons, explosives, and contraband.
- Serve as court bailiff and perform related duties; ensure safety and security of courtroom, jury, and participants.
- Respond to emergencies and incidents in the Municipal Courts, City Hall Complex, and within or around Lake Worth.
- Transport prisoners and ensure proper restraint during transport.
- Conduct traffic stops and investigations; enforce traffic laws, water or boating laws; issue citations as required.
- Detain, question, and investigate persons suspected of violating court orders.
- Serve warrants and arrest persons named therein; testify in court when required.
- Complete and maintain accurate reports, inventories, and documents.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
Positions typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, swimming, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling, and lifting. Medium work includes exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly moving objects.
Applicants must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility. Certain criminal convictions, including felony, Class A/B misdemeanors, and family violence convictions, may disqualify applicants.
